The WVU Health Sciences Office of Interprofessional Education, in collaboration with WVU Libraries, will present the Awards of Excellence in Interprofessional Education to a student and faculty/staff member this spring.

The awards are given annually. The award winners will have an exhibit in the WVU Health Sciences Center Library to showcase their achievements.

Congratulations to P3, Meagan Casimir! Her work with the WVU HSC IPE Student Innovation Challenge surrounding Women's Health was recognized during the Interprofessional Education NEXUS Summit.

Maegan has been working with family medicine to present women's health topics to faculty, staff, and students in our surrounding area. These presentations cover devices, legal issues, interprofessional contributions to the care team, and more! Stay tuned for this team's next class in Spring 2025.

Tonight was the first Interprofessional Education (IPE) workshop! It is an event where students from the Health Sciences Campus come together to connect, discuss community issues, and educate each other on their roles and responsibilities in healthcare.

Today, students from Dental Hygiene, Music Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, & Physical Therapy participated in the Community Action Poverty Simulation. This simulation allows students to role-play the lives of low-income families from single parents trying to care for their children to senior citizens trying to maintain their self sufficiency on Social Security. This simulation facilitates the understanding of poverty to promote compassionate care and patient safety.

IPE Student Innovation Challenge

The Office of IPE is sponsoring a few student-lead IPE initiatives. Interprofessional teams of students are challenged with developing and implementing a healthcare project to address an identified healthcare issue within the state of WV as well as an objective of Healthy People 2030. Four teams may be awarded up to $2500 in project funding as well as mentorship and research opportunities. Student submissions are due by October 3rd.

What a wonderful opportunity our IPE team has had to present at to share our accomplishments and flourish new ideas for Interprofessional Education!

Dr Gina Baugh & Katie Smalley presented the amazing patient outcomes demonstrated by having WVU IPE student teams in the WVUH Transitions of Care Clinic (spearheaded by Dr Sizemore, Dr Sankineni, & Dr Thayer).

Adam Hoffman shared his work with the IDEAS project, which integrates a telepresence robot to simulate a snippet of patient life after discharge with the goal to prevent readmission.
