WVU Recreation Parks and Tourism Resources The Recreation, Parks and Tourism Resources program at West Virginia University (WVU) prepares students for careers in natural resource leadership.

As a natural resource management-oriented program, the curriculum focuses on social, economic and ecological dimensions of managing natural resources. This program is accredited by the Society of American Foresters and is recognized as a leader in training future managers of recreation resources.

The RPTR program needs your support--right now! As part of WVU's Academic Transformation process, the RPTR program (& many other programs across WVU) is currently under review. You can find info about this process on the WVU website. One potential outcome is program discontinuance. West Virginia University is hiring multiple field interviewers for the National Visitor Use Monitoring Program (NVUM) in 4 National Forests in Oregon (Ochoco NF, Deschutes NF, and Fremont-Winema NF) and Montana (Custer-Gallatin NF). These are temporary positions that run from August 1 to November 1, 2023 with flexibility in the working period possible. Interviewers will be responsible for working 37.5 hours/week (5 days, 7.5 hours per day). Surveys will be conducted at National Forest recreation sites of exiting visitors. Job duties include driving to survey locations, conducting interviews of recreational visitors, keeping visitor counts, and recording and uploading data. Housing in Forest Service bunkhouses, a rental car for transportation, a fuel card, and flights to and from Oregon/Montana are provided.
