Inspired by his own family tragedy, WVU School of Medicine student Tucker Bennett is on a mission to save others through emergency medicine.

“Scholarship support has removed a lot of barriers for me. Nobody else in my family had a college degree. My mom didn’t make a lot growing up. So, without any additional financial stress, I’ve been able to focus on having a good time here and learning the best I can.”

Two new trees on the Health Sciences lawn, and a promise to plant many more. 🌳🌳

Dean Sarah Woodrum of the WVU School of Public Health read and signed the Arbor Day proclamation this afternoon, joined by Chancellor and Executive Dean Clay Marsh and WVU School of Pharmacy Dean Bill Petros for the ceremony.

Trees do quiet work for our health. They clean the air, cool our spaces and give us a reason to step outside. What is your favorite tree on campus?

Earlier this semester, the WISH Outreach Committee brought hands-on science and health experiences to young learners through 2 events:

At Girl Scout World Thinking Day, Dr. Heather Livengood, Alma Mattocks, and Michelle Sandrey guided scouts through warm-ups, stretching, and conversations about careers in athletic training and health sciences.

One week later at WVU Merit Badge University, scouts explored 12 healthcare professions, from medicine and pharmacy to speech-language pathology. They got to interact with an Anatomage Table, simulation mannequins, and a robotic surgical simulator, with 19 student volunteers serving as mentors along the way.

3 years running, WISH has sponsored this badge. Because inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals starts long before college.

Last month, we hosted Make a WISH, Make an Impact, bringing together voices from across our campus to explore pathways to leadership in science and health.

The event featured a keynote from Leslie Miele, Associate Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer for the HSC Strategic Compass, along with remarks from WVU President Benson and Chancellor and Executive Dean Clay Marsh.

Working for Impact in Science and Health (WISH) is built on a simple idea: every one of us can make a meaningful difference in our communities. This event proved it.

5 schools. 1 mission. And a year of milestones worth celebrating.

This week, WVU Health Sciences came together for the State of Health Sciences, a moment to reflect on how far we have come and look ahead to what is next.

Here is just a glimpse of what our schools accomplished this year:

WVU School of Dentistry completed $12.6 million in renovations and opened 61 new simulation stations, with 100% of graduates placed.

WVU School of Medicine expanded its MATTER track and secured $30 million in state funding for new facilities and class growth.

WVU School of Nursing built international partnerships with Johns Hopkins and institutions in the Philippines, expanding its reach far beyond West Virginia.

WVU School of Pharmacy earned full 8-year accreditation and won the APhA Pinnacle Award for its Rational Drug Therapy Program.

WVU School of Public Health reimagined its curriculum from the ground up and hit record admissions.

And now, we're looking to build a new Health Sciences Education Building to benefit everyone on our campus.

These 5 schools show up for each other, for their students, and for the people of West Virginia.

WVU Health Sciences came together today to celebrate collaboration and connection at the IPE Month Health Fair. 💛💙

Held at the Health Sciences Center Pylons, the event brought together HSC students, faculty and staff, along with visiting high school students from Hampshire County, West Virginia, for a day of hands-on activities and interactive booths.

The fair showcased the power of interprofessional education and the impact of working together to improve health outcomes.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped kick off IPE Month!
