MSW graduate Tawnisha Thomas is featured in this WVUOnline piece focusing on the road to commencement for students in WVU's online programs.

Give it a read! πŸ’»πŸŽ“

For many graduates of WVU’s online programs, commencement is about more than earning a degree. It is the culmination of years spent balancing careers, families, responsibilities, and coursework while refusing to give up on their goals.

In this story, graduates from across WVU reflect on the journey that brought them to commencement weekend and what it felt like to finally walk across the stage as Mountaineers.

From late nights and career changes to personal growth and perseverance, their stories highlight what makes the online student experience so unique and so meaningful.

Over the weekend, graduate students from our master's program at the WVU School of Social Work were inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, an incredible achievement that reflects their academic excellence.

Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline honor society, with chapters at more than 300 colleges and universities across the United States. Its mission is to recognize and promote exceptional scholarly achievement across all fields of study. Graduate students invited to join must rank in the top 10% of their class, making this recognition especially meaningful.

We are incredibly proud of our students for reaching this milestone and for embodying the values of excellence, scholarship, and service. Please join us in congratulating them on this well-deserved honor! πŸ’›πŸ’™

This past Saturday we celebrated two of our amazing students! πŸŽ‰

Lexus Middleton of our BSW Program was honored as the School of Social Work’s Outstanding Senior, and Gerard LaGuardia (not pictured) of our PhD program was recognized as the School of Social Work’s Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant.

Congratulations to Lexus and Gerard on these well-deserved honors! Selecting this year’s honorees was no easy task because of the many outstanding students in our program, but these two truly rose to the top. We are proud to celebrate their achievements!

The WVU LGBTQ Center just had its 13th Annual Lavender Graduation, which gives space for LGBTQ+ graduating students to celebrate their accomplishments and for their family, friends, supporters, and allies to honor them. Graduates honored from the School of Social Work include Valerie Adkins, Megan Alderman, Tori Conway (MSW), and Tayler Maddox, the BSW student intern at the LGBTQ+ Center.

Bonus: Dr. Megan Gandy and Center for Black Culture and Research Director Javier McCoy discovered that they wore coordinating outfits! Huge thanks to all of the LGBTQ+ Center staff, interns, students, and Faculty & Staff Commissioners for making the event happen year after year! πŸŽ‰
