The Lunar New Year!

Celebrating with the office of WVU Upward Bound/ TRIO and WVU high school students who will be first-generation college students: the students from the Chinese Program celebrated the first day of the Year of Dragon with twenty high schoolers from WV, activities included lion dances, Mahjong, shuttlecock, and receiving information on study abroad and scholarship opportunities offered by universities in Taiwan.

My life has been a true rollercoaster, full of constant ups and downs, but I believe my spirit of not giving up and handling challenges with a great smile extremely helped my way through. It’s been my third application for the Fulbright that turned out successful and a previous “one-step shy from the goal” experience taught me a great lesson-lesson of accepting and in fact embracing failures as a new opened window of opportunities. Thus, every wall has become a door for me! Now I’m here, in the States, pursuing my Master’s at Texas A&M university, majoring in Public Policy Analysis. I’m a true enthusiast of public service and community-centered contributions. Fulbright has enabled me to open up an extremely important chapter in my life and this trust and recognition of my capabilities won’t be taken for granted!

By pure chance, I stumbled upon the program that would change my life. It was back in March 2022 when I casually commented on Facebook about the process of applying for a Moroccan scholarship for PhD students. Little did I know that this innocent comment would lead to a life-changing encounter. A girl reached out to me through private messages, inquiring about certain documents required for the application. Naturally, I was more than happy to assist her, and our interactions soon blossomed into a genuine friendship. As we got to know each other better, she revealed an incredible opportunity – a fully funded scholarship that offered one year of research support. Excited by the prospect of such an opportunity, she suggested that we collaborate and apply for this program together. And now, here I am, a proud Fullbright scholar, embarking on a journey that wouldn't have been possible without that serendipitous moment on Facebook.
