"7 Mile is a collaborative exhibition uniting MFA students from the University of Idaho and Washington State University. Taking its name from the short physical distance, yet distinct state line, that separates the two programs, the exhibition celebrates proximity, exchange, and shared creative inquiry.

While each artist brings a unique perspective shaped by their community and practice, 7 Mile serves as a meeting point: a space where dialogue, experimentation, and connection bridge institutional and geographic boundaries.

The show highlights the diversity of approaches within contemporary graduate art programs, emphasizing the value of collaboration and conversation across disciplines. In doing so, 7 Mile reflects how art can both define and dissolve distance, linking two creative communities through a shared landscape of inquiry and imagination."

Promotion created by student, athletic department leaves artistic impression

Emma Cuddy, a senior majoring in studio art and design in U of I’s College of Art and Architecture, is creating a buzz with her original oil paintings featuring Vandal football players with Idaho landscapes as a backdrop, embodying U of I's competitive spirit.

Cuddy’s paintings caught the eye of the Vandal Athletics director of video production, Richard Pathomsiri. “I told her my idea was to do this with football players and to make the paintings look like they came from the Renaissance. She said yes, and we went to work.”

“I don’t think many people look at oil paintings that often, especially in a space dominated by graphic design like athletics,” Cuddy said. “I think oil is seen as more of a classical art form. Combining it with a modern concept like football makes it unique.”

“I think we’ve helped a new audience connect with Vandal football,” Pathomsiri noted.
