Meet Natali Campillo, a TRUST student at the Jerome site in Idaho WWAMI. Born in Mexico and raised in Teton Valley, Idaho, Natali says growing up in a rural community shaped her passion for medicine, particularly the challenges rural populations face in accessing care.

"Watching my family navigate language barriers, limited resources, and long distances inspired me to pursue a path where I could make a difference."

Natali studied at Swarthmore College and most recently worked as a phlebotomist with the American Red Cross in Madison, Wisconsin. She's grateful to return to a community like the one that raised her.

On her first months of medical school: "I'm learning to be more comfortable with not knowing everything right away, asking for help when I need it, and trusting myself more, and I'm really excited to see how much I continue to grow throughout medical school."

Outside of school, she enjoys sculpting, reading, being in nature, and spending time with family.

Meet Benjamin Ting, a UW School of Medicine TRUST Program student serving Orofino, Idaho.

Benjamin grew up in Moscow, Idaho, where watching his father practice rural family medicine with obstetrics sparked his passion for community-based care and shaped the kind of physician he hopes to become.

A University of Idaho graduate, he has since worked in operating room and clinic settings, deepening his commitment to serving smaller communities.

A few months into medical school, Benjamin says the size of his cohort has made interactions with peers and faculty feel more intimate, and the camaraderie at the Idaho site has him excited for the rest of the Foundations phase in Moscow.

Idaho has always been home, and he's looking forward to learning from the patients, providers, and community members in Orofino.

Outside of medicine, Benjamin enjoys the outdoors, hockey, traveling with his wife, and time with family and friends.

TRUST connects underserved communities, medical education, and health professionals across the WWAMI region, guiding students toward careers that help meet the region's workforce needs.

Congratulations to Dr. Melissa (Moe) Hagman, recipient of The College of Idaho's Distinguished Alumni Award!

A UW School of Medicine graduate ('99), Dr. Hagman has served as Program Director of the UW Boise Internal Medicine Residency since 2016, and is a hospitalist and palliative care physician at the Boise VA Medical Center.

Thank you for all you do to train Idaho's next generation of physicians.

🏆 Celebrating our Distinguished Alumni Award winner, Melissa (Moe) Hagman ’95!

The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes alumni who have shown exceptional and sustained accomplishments and leadership in their chosen profession.

Moe found her career path in medicine thanks to tremendous guidance from Dr. Sheri Robison, made lifelong friends, and met her future wife during her years as a student at The College of Idaho. She graduated with a degree in Zoology in 1995, then earned her medical degree from the University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine in 1999. Moe completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the UW Seattle/Boise Combined Internal Medicine Residency Program in 2002 and served as Inpatient Chief Resident at the UW Medical Center in Seattle, WA, until 2003.

Moe is a teacher at heart. She became teaching faculty at UW Medical Center in 2003 and Associate Program Director for the UW Internal Medicine Residency based in Seattle in 2008. At the suggestion of her wife, Mindy (the smart one in the duo), Moe moved back to Boise in 2011 to be near family and to assume the role of Associate Program Director at the newly formed, three-year, UW Boise Internal Medicine Residency. In 2016, Moe shifted into the Program Director role. It is her extreme delight to work every day with resident physicians and students. Moe is also a former Idaho American College of Physicians Governor, a Master in the American College of Physicians, and a current hospitalist and palliative care physician at the Boise VA Medical Center.

Congratulations, Moe! 💜🎉

Meet Heidi Sellmann, a first-year Idaho WWAMI student and TRUST scholar.

Born in Idaho, Heidi spent many years in the Midwest before returning home to finish a biology degree at Lewis-Clark State College.

Heidi went on to earn a master's in Nutritional Sciences at the University of Idaho, then spent two years as a medical assistant in Moscow, gaining hands-on clinical experience and seeing firsthand the challenges and rewards of caring for patients in a close-knit community.

That experience confirmed a path to medicine and shaped an interest in rural health care.

"I've truly enjoyed the beginning of medical school. While it has been challenging, it has been equally fascinating and deeply fulfilling," Heidi says. "I am deeply grateful for the support and encouragement of my classmates and the WWAMI faculty as we continue this journey together."

Outside the classroom, Heidi enjoys endurance activities and races with family.

Eunice Stallman, MD, applied to only two residency programs. She had a baby in her third year of medical school, another during internship, and a third during residency. She graduated four months after her classmates and walked straight into her dream job.

Today Dr. Stallman is an attending psychiatrist at State Hospital South in Idaho, where she precepts WWAMI students via telehealth. A UW alum who trained in the Boise track of the UW psychiatry residency, she now teaches the students walking the same path she did, and she wants them to know the path can bend.

"I hope to be able to give back as a mentor and help share my experiences and help show that there is no one 'right way' to go through medicine."

When Idaho WWAMI students walk into the interview room at State Hospital South in Idaho, their attending psychiatrist is already waiting for them on a screen. That is Eunice Stallman, MD, and for the next six weeks she’ll be their teacher, their supervisor, and often the person they turn to when t...
