🎉 Congratulations to Idaho’s State Public Defender office on its second anniversary! 👨‍⚖️

The University of Idaho College of Law recognizes State Public Defender Eric Fredericksen, the agency’s leadership team, attorneys, staff and contractors for their work building and strengthening Idaho’s statewide public defense system. ⚖️

Idaho Law values its partnership with the SPD and appreciates the agency’s support of our students through internships, externships, mentoring and career pathways in public service law. 🎓

In April 2026, Idaho Law Review hosted the symposium, “Justice for All: Systemic Transformation of Public Defense,” in Boise and via livestream for more than 230 attendees. The event examined the creation, operation and continuing evolution of Idaho’s statewide public defense system and highlighted its role as a national model for public defense reform.

Congratulations on this milestone, and thank you for your continued commitment to ensuring access to justice for Idahoans. 👏

⚖️ Putting legal education into practice - and being part of the conversation. 🎤
Recently, University of Idaho College of Law students and faculty participated in the Idaho Tribal Court State Court Forum, an annual gathering of representatives from Tribal, State and Federal courts and government agencies to discuss and address issues of common concern in the administration of justice.
This year’s Forum was hosted by The Coeur d'Alene Tribe, giving Idaho Law students a firsthand opportunity to engage with court leaders and share their own work.
Four Moscow students presented to the Forum about cases they have been working on, legal research projects, and summer employment experiences: Dosa Nappo (3L), Maggie Sowisdral (3L), Nora Fluetsch (3L) and Olivia Antone (2L). The students were joined by Tribal Law Clinic Director Professor Jessica Millward, Native American Law Program Director Julie Leavitt and Moscow student Ashley Cunningham (3L). Professor Jordan Gross, appointed by the Supreme Court of Idaho as the Academic Consultant to the Forum, also participated.
The Forum provides an important space for representatives of Idaho’s Tribal, State, and Federal justice systems to build understanding, cooperation and respectful working relationships.
👉Five federally-recognized Tribes are situated in Idaho:
• Coeur d’Alene Tribe
• Kootenai Tribe of Idaho
• Nez Perce Tribe
• Shoshone-Bannock Tribes
• Shoshone-Paiute Tribes
For Idaho Law, participation in this work is part of our land-grant mission to engage with communities across Idaho and prepare students to serve the people and legal systems of our state. Experiences like this allow our students to see firsthand how justice systems interact — and to contribute to that conversation while they are still in law school.
We are grateful to the tribal and state court leaders who welcomed our faculty and students and gave them the opportunity to learn, contribute and be part of this important process. 🖤💛⚖️

🗣️🇺🇸 The First Amendment. Free speech. The value of listening — even when we disagree.👂🏼😠

Especially now. 🗳

The University of Idaho College of Law is proud to be a co-sponsor of the inaugural Idaho Free Speech Summit, taking place Oct. 13 in Boise at the Idaho State Capitol.

🌄The summit is a partnership among the Idaho Secretary of State, Idaho Law and Boise State University Institute for Advancing American Values. The event will bring together policymakers, legal scholars, students and the public for a day of presentations and panel discussions focused on free speech, the First Amendment and civil discourse.

🔦 Topics will include campaign finance, campus free speech and the broader challenges of maintaining meaningful civic dialogue. Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox will deliver the keynote address, and CLE credit will be available for participating attorneys. ⚖️🏛️

🎤 For Idaho Law, this is exactly the kind of conversation in which law schools have an important role to play: creating space to examine difficult constitutional questions carefully and engage seriously with ideas we may not share.⁉

Join us for this timely conversation about one of our nation's most important constitutional freedoms. 💛🖤

📅 Oct. 13
📍 Idaho State Capitol, Boise
🎟️ Free to attend (lunch provided for all-day attendees, limited $50 tickets for lunch keynote only)

⚖️🤝 Connecting Idaho Law students with the legal profession!

We’re grateful to the Idaho State Bar’s Practice Sections for joining us for our annual Practice Section Fairs in Moscow last week and Boise today.

Members of the Bar’s practice sections met with students at both locations to share information about their areas of practice and the many ways students can become involved — including service projects, conferences, CLEs and social events.

Opportunities like these are an important part of the professional development experience at the University of Idaho College of Law. And our Career Development Office helps students take those connections a step further, offering personalized guidance, networking opportunities and career resources designed to help students and graduates achieve their professional goals. 🎓➡️⚖️

Thank you to all of the Idaho State Bar members who took the time to connect with our students and invest in the future of Idaho’s legal profession! 🖤💛

🌟 From Spirit of the Class to Woman of the Year! 🌟

We’re celebrating Alycia Moss ’05, a University of Idaho College of Law alumna who has been recognized among the Idaho Business Review ’s 2026 Women of the Year! 🎉⚖️

Alycia is director of Fennemore Law’s Immigration Practice Group, where she helps businesses, families and individuals navigate complex immigration matters. Her career has also included leadership with the American Immigration Lawyers Association, mentoring the next generation of attorneys and building a successful immigration practice in Coeur d’Alene.

🖤💫But one detail in her story especially caught our attention: In 2005, Alycia received the College of Law’s Spirit of the Class Award. 💛

It’s pretty special to see the spirit her classmates recognized nearly 20 years ago continue to show up in her leadership, service, advocacy and commitment to others today.

Congratulations, Alycia! We’re proud of all you’ve accomplished and grateful to have you as part of the Idaho Law family. 👏🎓

⚛️⚖️ Your passion can become your practice.

Cody Harrison ’26 came to Idaho Law with an unusual combination of experiences — a degree in nuclear engineering, 10 years of U.S. Navy service, including work aboard nuclear vessels, and a growing interest in the legal questions surrounding nuclear energy.

He also had a very specific career goal: become a nuclear lawyer.

At Idaho Law, faculty members Tim Murphy and Marie Callaway Kellner worked with Cody to help him chart a path toward that goal. He pursued dual emphases in business law and natural resources and environmental law, building a legal education around the issues he hopes to tackle in his career.

Now that path is becoming a reality.

Cody has joined Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani as the firm opens its new Boise office. He is beginning his career as a civil litigation associate with a long-term goal of specializing in nuclear regulatory and safety law — an emerging field where his unique combination of technical, military and legal experience can make a difference. ⚡️

This is one of the things we love about Idaho Law: our faculty don't just teach students the law. They get to know their students, understand their goals and help them build a path toward the careers they want.

Cody knew where he wanted to go. Idaho Law helped him chart the course. 🧭⚖️
