The food distribution for Isabella County is this Saturday, October 17, 2026!

The semi-truck from the Greater Lansing Food Bank will be rolling into the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe around 8:30 am and we are requesting your help to get the word out for volunteers and to let families know the date on social media. Cars will start to line up after 9 am and distribution is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Black Elk Government Complex parking lot and will continue until all food is distributed.

There will be produce and meat that will need to be given away that day so please help us spread the word via social media, as we are targeting to impact 350 families. This distribution is open to all residents in Isabella County. Please see the attached flyer and share it with anyone or any organization that could use the information.

Volunteers are needed on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. and will be used to help with traffic, setup and clean-up, registration and assisting with the food distribution.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day recognizes the history, resilience, culture, and contributions of Indigenous communities. Here in mid-Michigan, our team had the honor of incorporating the culture and values of the Anishinaabe people into the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College . 📚

Collaborating with the college, we transformed an empty building into a place that supports education, community, and a strong sense of belonging. Today, we recognize our partners at Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College and the broader Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.

Thank you for trusting us with this project, and for helping us create a space rooted in Anishinaabe culture.

🩸 Give the Gift of Life: SCTC Blood Drive

Join us in making a difference in our community by donating blood at the upcoming blood drive hosted by Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College.

Every blood donation has the potential to help up to three patients in need. Whether it's supporting accident victims, surgery patients, new mothers, or others facing medical challenges, your donation can provide hope and healing to members of our community. The goal for this drive is to collect 15 blood products, helping meet the ongoing needs of local hospitals.
I’ve attached the flyer; all donors get the fun Halloween t-shirt! I want to also ensure donors are prepared, so I added a material around donor preparedness. Drinking water, eating before donating, etc.! We encourage students, employees, and community members who are eligible to donate to consider participating. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and help save lives.

The Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College (SCTC) has received official notification of approval from the Higher Learning Commission to offer a Bachelor of Arts in Anishnaabe and Indigenous Studies. This exciting milestone will allow SCTC to expand its academic offerings and provide students with more in-depth learning opportunities focused on Anishinaabe and Indigenous histories, cultures, language, knowledge systems, and Lifeways.
This achievement reflects years of dedication, collaboration, and vision. Miigwech to everyone who contributed time, knowledge, and support in building this program. Your efforts have created new opportunities for past, current, and future students to deepen their understanding of Anishinaabe and Indigenous perspectives, strengthen cultural knowledge, foster meaningful community connections while continuing their education at the next academic level.
The benefits of this work extend far beyond the classroom. The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan and the surrounding community will continue to benefit from expanded access to higher education, creating lasting opportunities for generations to come.
SCTC looks forward to the value-added benefit a Bachelor of Arts in Anishnaabe and Indigenous Studies will have on our students, our communities, and on the continued growth of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College.
Implementation efforts for the Anishnaabe and Indigenous Studies program are ongoing, with the program expected to launch in Fall 2027!
