A Young Alumni Achievement Award will be presented to Angela Miller ’13.
Angela Miller ’13 is a high school English teacher, mentor, and youth advocate who creates transformative spaces where students can thrive. In addition to teaching, she advises multiple student organizations, coaches slam poetry, and directs the Fox River Valley Youth Poet Laureate Program. Through her leadership in education, the arts, and student support initiatives, Miller has empowered countless young people to find and share their voices.
Angela continues to give back. She will be sharing her insights during homecoming as the Beta Omicron Distinguished Alumni Visitor (BODAV). Join us in welcoming Angela back to the Hilltop for her interactive conversation, "Creativity and Healing-Centered Approaches to Learning, Work, and Community," Friday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. on the Orange Carpet in Thomas Commons. The BODAV lecture series is free and open to all, so please support our alumni mentors by attending and making this a great event.

A leadership and service award will be presented to Mark Van Etten ‘76.
Mark earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine and completed family medicine residency training in Rockford, Illinois. He and his wife, Dr. Bev Bohac, joined a small clinic in Spooner, Wisconsin, in 1983, where they spent their entire medical careers. Van Etten has dedicated 50 years of service to Cornell, including 30 years as a class agent and decades of leadership within the Class of 1976, helping classmates stay connected and engaged with one another and the college.

With Homecoming weekend just around the corner, we're excited to feature our final Hall of Fame inductee, Andy Ehresman ’96. Today, we celebrate the accomplishments that have secured his place in Cornell Athletics history.

Ehresman was the 1995 MWC South Division Offensive Player of the Year, amassing 3,784 all-purpose yards and 25 touchdowns in his career. He was a member of the 1992 MWC championship football team that finished 10-0 and co-captained the 1995 MWC title squad that went 9-1. Congratulations to Andy on his induction into the Cornell Athletics Hall of Fame, a truly well-deserved honor.

The next alum award winner is RJ Holmes-Leopold ’99. RJ is being awarded one of the Leadership and Service awards.

Holmes-Leopold is a higher education professional, volunteer leader, and passionate advocate for students and alumni. Currently a university gift officer at Hamline University and an Ed.D. student at the University of Pennsylvania, he has dedicated his career to service, mentorship, and educational advancement. Through decades of leadership, community involvement, and enthusiastic support of Cornell College, Holmes-Leopold exemplifies the spirit of a lifelong Cornellian.

The countdown to Homecoming continues as we recognize another member of this year's Hall of Fame class. We're excited to spotlight Nicole Duncan ’11, whose accomplishments have secured her place among Cornell Athletics' all-time greats.

Duncan started all 150 softball games she played as a left-handed outfielder and graduated with 17 school records. Duncan was awarded Cornell’s 2011 Ellen Whale Senior Female Athlete of the Year and 2008 First-Year Female Athlete of the Year. Join us in celebrating Nicole’s induction and outstanding achievements!

Twenty-five years after the September 11 attacks, more than 82,000 artifacts at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum help preserve the stories of those who experienced that day. Cornell College alumna Stephanie Schmeling Johnson ’09 has spent the past 15 years helping care for those stories. As head of cataloging and archives at the museum, she works behind the scenes to document and preserve its growing collection.
