Minnetrista Museum & Gardens has received a $5 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to improve facilities, protect museum collections, restore historic spaces, expand the Bob Ross Traveling Exhibition, and enhance visitor experiences across campus in Muncie, Indiana.

We were pleased to join Ball Brothers Foundation and other community leaders last Thursday for the Optimus Primary Field Trip. This event provided an opportunity to bring stakeholders together for a series of site visits showcasing how Muncie and East Central Indiana—including Maplewood Guest House—are strengthening the healthcare workforce pipeline through innovative partnerships and programs.

Maplewood is proud to contribute to this effort by providing award-winning living-learning accommodations for medical students, as well as high-impact immersive learning opportunities for Ball State University students. Many students leverage the experiences and projects completed at Maplewood to enhance their professional portfolios and resumes.

During the field trip, participants toured Maplewood Guest House (photos unavailable), the Ball State University College of Health, and several other healthcare institutions throughout the region, gaining valuable insight into the collaborative initiatives shaping the future of healthcare education and workforce development.

We were honored to participate in this special 100th anniversary celebration.

Thank you to Ball State University student Maggie Hibbetts for designing the exclusive Ball family/Ball stores fashion collection, and to Indiana University School of Medicine student Erich Ong and Ball State University student Jesse Saunders for leading guest tours throughout the event.

We were grateful to celebrate this milestone with the Ball Brothers Foundation and alongside such talented students and valued community partners.

Although summer has officially begun and most students are on break, we are actively preparing our building for a series of upgrades designed to enhance our living-learning community. Throughout the summer, facilities staff and contractors will be completing several improvement projects, including upgrading corridor lighting as well as lighting in the multipurpose room and business center, replacing blinds and blackout shades, repaving the parking lot, and developing a new student learning space and conference room. These projects will be finalized and ready for student use in the near future.

To help reduce stress ahead of upcoming final examinations, students recently took part in a relaxing afternoon of yoga and meditation on the Maplewood front lawn, followed by the enjoyment of refreshing fruit smoothies.

Ball State University President Geoffrey Mearns recently highlighted the Optimus Primary initiative during an episode of the monthly news program Cardinal Compass.
Jud Fisher, President of the Ball Brothers Foundation, joined President Mearns, along with students from Ball State University and the Indiana University School of Medicine, to discuss the initiative, as well as their involvement and perspectives. The conversation placed particular emphasis on immersive learning opportunities and the living-learning experience at Maplewood Guest House.
