Chowan University Alumni and Supporters Go Hawks! Chowan University, grounded in its Christian faith, has been transforming the lives of students of promise for over 174 years.

A Christian liberal arts university founded in 1848, Chowan is located in the Historic Inner Banks community of Murfreesboro in northeastern North Carolina. The university is in close proximity to the Outer Banks and Hampton Roads, Virginia. Chowan's park-like campus features more than 400 acres, including Lake Vann, the beloved "Squirrel Park" and the original McDowell Columns Hall, erected in 18

51 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, Chowan offers over 70 undergraduate academic programs among the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Education and Professional Studies, and the School of Business and Design. Master's degrees are awarded through the School of Graduate Studies. The Music Department is also individually accredited by NASM. An NCAA Division II member institution, Chowan offers 20 varsity sports, as well as co-ed competitive cheerleading and co-ed esports, and a junior varsity men's basketball team. A Silver Alert rescue ended on a positive note thanks to the quick action of a Marine Patrol officer.
Officer Jonathan Morriss was towing his boat near Oriental, N.C. Thursday when a call came across the radio that authorities found an 81-year-old man who had been missing and without his medication for several days.
“I was probably 4 to 5 minutes from the location when the call came out,” Morriss said. That was closer than any rescue squad, so Morriss disconnected his boat so he could take his Marine Patrol truck through a remote, heavily wooded area to meet another deputy on scene.
When Morriss got to the scene, he found the man unresponsive but still breathing. Morriss, one of four certified EMT’s with the Marine Patrol’s Swift Water Rescue Team, grabbed his medical bag and helped the man with basic life support until paramedics arrived.
Marine Patrol Col. Chris Lee received a letter of commendation from Pamlico County Emergency Services Director Chris Murray and Pamlico County Sheriff Chris Davis regarding Morriss’ actions. See the commendation letter here:https://bit.ly/4u7Nn6W

Greetings from Spartanburg, South Carolina!

It is Championship Sunday down here a little over 300 miles from Murfreesboro, NC and we are so excited to be competing for TWO Conference Carolina’s Championships today 🏆

Our men’s and women’s team have shown immense character to get to this stage and we are immensely proud of them!

Fun fact: Chowan University is the only school who had BOTH their men’s AND women’s team competing at Wofford (1/4 final stage).
