STUDENT SPOTLIGHT | Meet Lucas Daggs

Lucas Daggs knows the construction industry firsthand. After working as a pipelayer installing underground utilities, he decided to further his education at MTSU.

Now a Commercial Construction Management major in the MTSU School of Concrete and Construction Management, Lucas balances his coursework with his job as a labor foreman.

The Nashville State Community College transfer student was selected as a prestigious Buchanan Transfer Fellow through the MTSU Honors College, recognizing his academic achievement and potential.

His advice to other students? “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

Two College of Basic and Applied Sciences programs have earned national recognition in the 2027 U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges rankings.

• Undergraduate Engineering (Non-Doctorate) — No. 106 nationally

• Undergraduate Computer Science — No. 350 nationally

U.S. News & World Report evaluated roughly 1,500 institutions across the country for its national categories.

The CBAS rankings are part of a strong showing for MTSU, which also ranked No. 6 among Top Public Schools in the South.

MTSU is taking a leading role in supporting Tennessee’s agricultural community.

The MTSU School of Agriculture in partnership with the Center for Health and Human Services, has been named Tennessee’s lead partner for the Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network South by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Supported by a new grant to the School of Agriculture, the initiative will connect farmers, agricultural workers and their families with stress and well-being resources while strengthening partnerships across the state.

Dr. Chaney Mosley, associate professor of agricultural education, is leading the MTSU project, which will include training, outreach, listening sessions and development of a Tennessee Farm Stress and Well-being Resource Directory.

My MTSU Story: Science isn’t just something you learn in the classroom. It’s something you get to do.

CBAS biology student Fena is gaining hands-on experience through undergraduate research, working in a professor’s lab and putting what she’s learned in class into practice.

That experience has also helped shape what comes next by strengthening her lab skills and helping solidify her decision to continue her education in graduate school.
