Media Arts at MTSU Programs include filmmaking, television production, animation, photography, and media management.

MTSUโ€™s Department of Media Arts is the stateโ€™s largest and longest-running creative media program, offering hands-on study in video, TV, film, animation, live events, photography, and media management. The Media Arts Department in the College of Media and Entertainment at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) is the largest, oldest, and most comprehensive program for creative media production i

n the state and in the region. Media Arts is known for outstanding facilities that provide students with professional-level hands-on experiences. The department was formerly known as the Department of Electronic Media Communication (EMC) and formally changed its name to Media Arts on July 1, 2017.

Congratulations to Dylan Womack (โ€™25) and her team, Andrea Guajardo Trevino, Lisa Wallace, Malik Bumphus, Jose Montoya, Leon Artemis, and K. Stephens, whose film ๐‘จ๐’๐’Š๐’†๐’๐’‚๐’•๐’†๐’… has been accepted into the Nashville Film Festival!

The team is also headed to the Melrose Film Festival in Orlando, Florida.

๐…๐š๐œ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฒ ๐’๐ฉ๐จ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ

Media Arts Professor Tom Neff is bringing his expertise and experience to a major new documentary project, tentatively titled "Tear Down This Wall."

Professor Neff is the driving force behind the five-hour documentary series, which explores the life, ideas and impact of renowned economist Dr. Arthur Laffer, creator of the famed Laffer Curve, which illustrates the relationship between tax rates and government revenue.

Production is scheduled for this fall, with post-production continuing through winter and spring 2027.

SBCME faculty member Jerod Hollyfield also recently visited the set to offer feedback on script drafts as the project takes shape.

We spent the summer investing in the future of Media Arts. ๐ŸŽฌ

Studio-1 in Bragg 161 received a major overhaul, including a new reinforced superstructure that allows students to adjust audio, lighting and video equipment directly from the ground.

Our Mobile Production Lab is also getting a complete refresh, from a new exterior design by Professor Leslie Haines to major technology upgrades that will bring the lab to a 1080p 3G-SDI workflow with fiber optic I/O, preparing students to work with the same advanced broadcast technologies used by partners like Bonnaroo and ESPN.

We're ensuring our students have access to the technology, spaces and hands-on experience to step confidently into the media industry.
