🇺🇸 What does the Declaration of Independence mean to Americans today?

In the latest Buchanan Lecture, Honors College Dean Dr. John Vile explores the meaning and lasting influence of one of America's most important founding documents — and how Americans have celebrated it throughout history.

From the Declaration's origins during the American Revolution to the nation's 50th, 100th, 150th, 200th and now 250th anniversaries, Dr. Vile examines how our understanding and celebration of the Declaration have evolved.

Drawing from his scholarship and personal collection of historical artifacts, Dr. Vile brings the Declaration to life and considers what its ideals of equality, liberty, self-government and the pursuit of happiness continue to mean.

* Central's new principal, Dr. Clark Blair, is a 3x MTSU College of Education alum!
* 1,268 Central students have taken MTSU classes through our Dual Enrollment program since 2013
* 39 Central graduates accepted the Buchanan Fellowship, MTSU’s top academic honor, through MTSU Honors College
