When Lucas Daggs began at Nashville State Community College, he wasn’t sure he could even graduate.

Today, he’s a Buchanan Transfer Fellow at MTSU, pursuing a degree in commercial construction management while working as a labor foreman.

Lucas’ path to MTSU began as a pipelayer installing underground utilities. A conversation with a general contractor helped him see a future in construction management, and his experience in the field continues to shape his goals.

The Buchanan Transfer Fellowship has helped make that future possible, giving Lucas financial support while connecting him with Honors coursework, research opportunities and a path toward graduate school.

His advice to community college students considering a transfer is simple: “Take the shot.”

SCCM School Director, Dr. Nicholas had the honor of representing MTSU College of Basic & Applied Sciences at the MT Salute to Veterans game this past weekend! Thank you to everyone who organized this special tribute — and to all veterans, thank you for your service.

Thank you to Dr. Tom Nicholas and our MTSU ROTC cadets for representing the College of Basic and Applied Sciences at last week’s Salute to Veterans game!

Dr. Nicholas, director of the MTSU School of Concrete and Construction Management and a Gulf War Army veteran, joined MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee and our ROTC cadets on the field.

We enjoyed being part of a game that recognizes and honors our veterans.

For 30 years, the Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program has been building something bigger than a degree. Since 1996, it has been forging the next generation of leaders for the concrete industry.

Dr. Heather Brown knows exactly why that matters. She has seen both sides of the equation: the classroom and the hiring floor. Her message to employers is clear. CIM graduates arrive ready to contribute on day one, not month six, the demand for these grads outpaces the supply, year after year, and companies across the industry, from ready-mix producers to contractors, are actively recruiting CIM talent.
