Congrats to College of Education graduate student R.J. Ware who was named as one of the recipients of the 2026 Harold Love Outstanding Community Service Award!

Ware, who served as the President, was presented the award by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission at a special ceremony held at the Tennessee Capitol.

The award is given annually to students, faculty, or staff members from Tennessee’s two- and four-year postsecondary institutions. It recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a strong commitment to volunteerism, public service and leadership in community organizations.

Named after late Rep. Harold Love Sr., the award was established in 1991 and later renamed in 1997 to honor his legacy of public service. The program continues to celebrate individuals who serve as ambassadors for community engagement throughout Tennessee’s higher education system.

Shout out to College of Education alum Ashley Witt who was just named Tennessee Principal of the Year Semifinalist! Witt has served as principal of Buchanan Elementary since 2017.

Director of Schools Dr. Jimmy Sullivan (also an alum) said "Ashley has grown tremendously as a leader since taking over Buchanan Elementary,” she leads with heart, compassion and purpose, and it’s clear in the culture she has created within the school."

Principal Witt said "Rutherford County Schools raised me and I’m grateful that I get to serve here. I don’t take that lightly.” Witt also said "I want our children to know they were loved, they were seen and they were supported,” we want the best for them, and we want to help them become the best version of themselves." The school year is wrapping up for most of the schools in our area. Congrats to the teachers, staff, admins, and the students and families for a great year!

The College of Education was honored to serve some breakfast goodies to teachers and staff yesterday David Youree Elementary before their end of year meetings thanks to the generous support from Chick-fil-A Smyrna (TN)! It was a treat to talk with so many of our alumni about their time on campus and their interest in additional degree programs! MTSU Alumni Association
