Exploring academic pathways and future career opportunities! 💙💛

Dr. Katy Hancock, chair of the Department of Criminal Justice and Social Work; Marshall Hayes, Social Work Program Director; and Megan Smetana, Communication Disorders Program Coordinator, recently visited IDC100T, a transitions class for undeclared students.

During their visit, they introduced students to academic programs within their respective departments, highlighting potential majors, hands-on learning experiences, and career opportunities. The visit gave students an opportunity to learn more about these fields as they consider their academic and professional goals.

We're always excited to help students explore their interests and discover the opportunities available within the College of Education and Human Services!

Hands-on learning in action! 💙💛

Students in Murray State University's Communication Disorders program are gaining valuable real-world experience while developing their clinical skills!

This morning, two speech-language pathology (SLP) students had the opportunity to perform a scope examination on a patient with the assistance and guidance of Dr. Nikki Ga***rd, putting their classroom knowledge into practice in a clinical setting.

Experiences like these help prepare our future speech-language pathologists with the skills, confidence, and hands-on training they'll need throughout their careers.

🐎💙 Inspiring the next generation of educators!

Murray State University's Kem Cothran, K-12 Placement Liaison, and Amy Waggoner, Praxis Coordinator, recently visited Henry Clay High School in Lexington, Kentucky, to participate in a college panel discussion with students in an education class!

Alongside representatives from Berea College, the University of Kentucky, Midway College and Kentucky State University, they shared insights into opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in education.

We're excited to connect with future educators and help them explore the many pathways to making a difference in the classroom! 🍎📚

The Center for Communication Disorders continues to make a difference through its SPEAK OUT! program, helping individuals with Parkinson’s disease strengthen their communication skills in a supportive, encouraging environment. We love seeing this group celebrate their progress, build friendships, and show off their new SPEAK OUT! shirts!

The Murray State University College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) honored Tim McGinnis, a longtime educator, school administrator and community leader, as its Outstanding Alumnus during the college’s annual Homecoming Breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 17.

A two-time Murray State graduate, McGinnis earned a master’s degree in secondary education with an emphasis in guidance in 1980 and completed an education specialist program comprising 30 graduate hours beyond the master’s degree in 1983, along with additional coursework in public school administration.

Throughout his career, McGinnis dedicated more than three decades to public education, serving as a classroom teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. His commitment to students and community service has continued well beyond his retirement.

What a wonderful way to celebrate Homecoming! 💙💛🐎

This morning, the College of Education and Human Services welcomed alumni, faculty, staff and students back to campus for our annual Homecoming Breakfast!

The morning was filled with laughter, cherished memories, familiar faces and plenty of Racer pride as we celebrated the people, accomplishments and connections that make COEHS so special.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for such a memorable celebration! It's always a joy to welcome our alumni home and celebrate the lasting impact of our Racer family.

The event gave our future educators an opportunity to explore career paths, connect with school districts and take the next steps toward making a difference in classrooms and communities.
