Award-winning author Wes Blake, writer of the novella *Pineville Trace*, is coming to Murray State TOMORROW NIGHT for a reading featuring excerpts from *Pineville Trace* and *Hazelgreen and Other Haunts*.

⏰ 7:30 p.m.
📍 Faculty Hall, Room 208

Blake will also meet with advanced creative writing students to discuss his work and life as a writer. Copies of his novella will be available for purchase and signing after the reading.

The event is sponsored by the Department of English and Philosophy through the Murray State Reading Series. It’s free and open to the public!

Racers, here’s some exciting news for the next generation of students! 💙💛

Murray State University has received a $1.9 million federal grant over five years to continue its TRIO Talent Search program, helping students across western Kentucky prepare for and pursue higher education.

With $380,000 in annual funding, the program will serve 760 students each year through partner school districts across the region, expanding access to college guidance and opportunities for students who are traditionally underrepresented in higher education.

Investing in students today helps open doors to brighter futures and strengthens the communities our Racer family calls home. 🐎

Racer talent takes the stage! 🎶💙💛

Murray State alumni, students and faculty were part of the Paducah Symphony Orchestra’s season-opening concert, showcasing the talent and mentorship connecting generations of musicians.

Murray State alumna Audrianna Hughes (’22) was the featured mezzo-soprano soloist, joined by members of the Murray State Concert Choir: Caleb Williams, Logan Drew, Jaiden Harner, Kyler Hawkins, Landon Hinz, Tyrone Hopson, Lucas Jones, AJ Koerner, Jessie Leal, Kip Lewis, Eli Pavy, Alex Prather, Charlie Taylor, Elijah Taylor, Maxwell Tolar and Nova Witzenman.

Student violinist Lydia Sahawneh also performed with the symphony, an opportunity that grew from a master class arranged at Murray State by Dr. Ashley Cu***ng, associate professor of horn. Other instrumental musicians from Murray State included faculty members from the Department of Music: Dr. Ashley Cu***ng, professor of horn, and Dr. Chris Sharpe, assistant professor of trombone.

From alumni performing on a professional stage to students gaining hands-on experience, this concert highlights the power of mentorship and the dedication of Murray State’s Department of Music to preparing the next generation of musicians.

A big congratulations to Murray State alum Tim McGinnis (’80 and ’83), named the College of Education and Human Services’ Outstanding Alumnus during its Homecoming Breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 17! 💙💛

Tim dedicated more than 30 years to public education, serving as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. Throughout his career, he remained committed to helping students succeed and strengthening the communities he served.

Congratulations on this well-deserved honor, Tim!

Murray State alumna Doris Clark Sarr (’87, ’98 and ’07) continues to make an impact through public service and community leadership. 💙💛

With a background in grant writing, Sarr has been reappointed to the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights for a term ending Sept. 12, 2029.

Sarr made history as the first female president of the Kentucky Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials and the first and only African American woman elected to the Murray City Council. Her accomplishments also include receiving the Political Empowerment Award for her service to western Kentucky and the Commonwealth, being named a Kentucky Colonel and receiving the NAACP Chapter’s 2020 Rosa Parks Power of One honor.

We’re proud to celebrate Doris and her continued commitment to serving communities across Kentucky!
