The Epsilon Zeta Chapter of Chi Omega was established on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University in 1963. Prior to being Chi Omegas, the members were a social organization known as the Pine Burrs. The Pine Burr members were eager to gain a charter with a national women's fraternity. They had many opportunities to gain a charter with various national organizations, but waited on Chi Omega.

The women knew that the values and beliefs of Chi Omega were what they wanted for themselves and those who would follow. They knew that Chi Omega would hold up as a great women's institution for years to come not only at SFA, but nationwide.
