🏃‍♂️ Throwback Thursday: The Nighthawks 5K! 🏃‍♀️

We’re throwing it back to last year’s Nighthawks 5K, where Nighthawks of all ages laced up their running shoes, hit the course, and made some great Homecoming memories! ❤️🖤

The good news? We’re doing it all again during NNU Homecoming & Family Weekend, November 6 at 4:30pm! 🎉

And yes… the challenge is BACK! 👀

That’s right! Brent “Dr. Pete” Peterson is ready to take on the NNU community once again! If you cross the finish line before Dr. Pete, you’ll not only earn a special “Beat Dr. Pete” sticker, but he’ll also have to contribute toward NNU student scholarships! 💰🎓

That’s right—the faster you run, the more Dr. Pete may have to pay! 😉 It’s all in good fun and for a great cause!

This Homecoming, we’re inviting all former SGA members and past Student Life staff to come back to campus for a special gathering on Saturday, November 7, from 10–11 a.m.!
It’s a chance to reconnect with familiar faces, catch up on what everyone has been doing, hear from today’s SGA leaders, and take a look at the SGA office space. Whether you served recently or years ago, we’d love to welcome you back and celebrate the lasting impact of student leadership at NNU! 🎉

Four years ago, the Class of 2022 crossed the stage at Northwest Nazarene University and began an exciting new chapter. From favorite campus hangouts and late-night conversations to the friendships and experiences that helped shape who you are today, your NNU years gave you plenty of memories worth celebrating. ❤️

🎓 Class of 2021 — It’s Time to Reunite!

Five years ago, the Class of 2021 wrapped up their time at Northwest Nazarene University and headed out to make their mark on the world. Along the way, they carried with them the friendships, lessons, laughter, and memories that made their NNU experience so meaningful. ❤️

Now, it’s time to bring those memories back to campus! 🏠

Throwback to the Class of 2007!

Can you believe it’s been nearly 20 years?!

Back in 2007, Facebook was just catching on, flip phones were still a thing, and the Class of 2007 was making memories at Northwest Nazarene University that would last a lifetime! ❤️

From cheering on the Crusaders and hanging out with friends to late-night study sessions and celebrating graduation, the NNU experience was about so much more than earning a degree. It was about the people who made those years unforgettable.

Now it’s time to get the gang back together! 🎉

This year is extra special because it’s a Cluster Reunion Year! The Class of 2007 will celebrate alongside the Classes of 2005 and 2006 during NNU Homecoming, November 6–7, 2026! That’s three classes, countless memories, and one incredible opportunity to reconnect with the people who made your college years so special.

Celebrating the Johnson Family | 2026 Family Heritage Award

Some NNU stories don’t just span years—they span generations.

Jerald Johnson came to Northwest Nazarene College in 1945, working the railroad to make his way west from Sidney, Nebraska. Alice arrived in 1946 from Calgary, Alberta, becoming the first in her family to attend college.

Their NNU story soon became a love story, too. A shy young woman and a fun-loving prankster met on campus, fell in love and began a life together centered on faith, education and service.

Their journey took them from pastoral ministry in Idaho and Oregon to nearly 11 years as missionaries in Frankfurt, Germany. After returning to Idaho, Jerald served as pastor of Nampa College Church of the Nazarene and later as a General Superintendent for the Church of the Nazarene.

Today, their daughter Carla continues that legacy as a General Superintendent.

Perhaps most remarkable is the Johnson family’s enduring connection to NNU. Their example inspired three generations of NNU students and graduates, serving in ministry, law, real estate, counseling, insurance, education, banking and beyond.

For the Johnson family, NNU has always been more than a college. It is a place where faith, family and education come together.

We are honored to present the Johnson family with NNU’s 2026 Family Heritage Award. ❤️

🎓 Class of 2020 — Your Reunion Is Coming! 🎓

Six years ago, the Class of 2020 completed their time at Northwest Nazarene University and stepped into the next chapter of their story. From campus traditions and late-night conversations to lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories, those NNU years were something special. ❤️

And now, it’s time to come home! 🏠

This November, the Class of 2020 will celebrate their reunion during NNU Homecoming alongside the Classes of 2021 and 2022!

It’s been a few years, but some things never change—especially the memories and friendships made at NNU. 🎉

🏆 Celebrating our 2026 Distinguished Service Award recipient: Mike Zahare

For Mike Zahare, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God” has been more than a Bible verse—it has been a guiding principle throughout his life.

Growing up in Fairbanks, Alaska, Mike learned the value of Christ-like service from his parents and began serving alongside them at Fairbanks First Church of the Nazarene at just seven years old. That example continued at Northwest Nazarene College, where Matthew 6:33 helped shape his faith, family and professional life.
Mike earned his degree in Business Administration from NNC in 1981 before going on to earn his J.D. from the University of Washington. Along the way, he met his wife, Dawn, at NNC. They married in 1983 and have built a life centered on family, faith and service.

That commitment to service has extended to NNU for more than two decades. Mike joined the NNU Alumni Board in 2001, became a member of the Board of Trustees in 2004, and has served as Chair of the Board since 2019. He has also faithfully served his local church in Anchorage for decades.

Though Mike may be uncomfortable in the spotlight, his response to this honor reflects the verse that has guided his life: the focus isn't on him, but on seeking first the Kingdom of God. We’re honored to recognize Mike Zahare with the 2026 Distinguished Service Award for his extraordinary commitment to serving the NNU community and living out a lifetime of faith in action.

Join us during Homecoming & Family Weekend as we celebrate Mike and our other 2026 alumni award recipients at the Alumni Awards Celebration Chapel on Friday, November 6 at 10 a.m.
Following chapel, join us for a special Alumni Awards Luncheon, where we’ll go deeper into the stories, careers and impact of this year’s honorees.
