In Conflict Management, students are reading "Getting to Yes" and "High Conflict." These books provide valuable insights into various aspects of conflict.

By exploring negotiation techniques, common causes of disputes, and resolution strategies, students gain a deeper understanding of how to approach and resolve conflicts in both academic settings and real-world scenarios.

The discussions and assignments based on these readings encourage critical thinking and practical application of the concepts, helping students build essential communication and problem-solving skills.

Why do some conflicts seem impossible to solve, even when practical solutions are available? Often, it is because the conflict is not really about interests — it is about identity.

When people feel that their sense of self, belonging, values, or respect is under threat, conflict becomes deeper and more personal.

This webinar will help participants understand the nature of identity-based conflict and offer tools for navigating these moments with greater empathy, awareness, and effectiveness.

As a new student at the Institute for Conflict Management, you will enroll in Modern Foundations of Conflict Management.

This is an asynchronous course designed to provide you with a solid grounding in the field, but there will also be a required in-person class session on October 2nd. This session will offer an opportunity to meet your classmates and instructors, as well as to engage in interactive activities that build on the course material.

All new students are also required to complete the Kraybill Styles Matters survey, which will help you identify your personal conflict style.

Understanding your approach to conflict is an important first step in developing the skills necessary for effective conflict management.

Congratulations to our three August graduates! We are proud to celebrate their hard work, dedication, and accomplishments.

Thinking about graduate school? Students who begin now could graduate in as little as 18 months.

This fall’s Modern Foundations course is a great way to get started — it is asynchronous with one in-person meeting, offering a flexible and welcoming way to ease into graduate study.

Congratulations to our graduates, and welcome to those considering the next step!

This fall, The Institute for Conflict Management is offering an asynchronous course on Conflict in Educational Settings.

The course examines how conflict arises in schools and other educational environments, and how educators, leaders, and students can respond in thoughtful, constructive, and equitable ways.

Topics include communication, institutional culture, power dynamics, identity, policy, and approaches to conflict resolution.

Because the course is asynchronous, students can participate with flexibility throughout the semester.

In our Conflict in Business Settings course, we asked students to reflect on the most impactful and productive meetings they've experienced.

The common thread? These meetings respected everyone’s time and drove meaningful progress toward real solutions.

What set these meetings apart? What was the secret ingredient?

How can you bring this secret ingredient to your own meetings?

ICM courses are designed to empower students to leverage their past successes and turn them into actionable strategies for the future.

Celebrating our May 2026 Graduates!

Amanda Price

Successful conflict management requires a yes mentality and a self-awareness that other perspectives can equally lead to positive outcomes.

Before moving the needle toward resolution, though, one must develop particular skills to be a better listener and communicator which, in turn, lead to becoming a more effective conflict engager.

When we approach conflict with openness and foundational competencies, we transform disagreements into opportunities for growth and mutual understanding.
