Lambda, officially recognized by Vanderbilt University as the Vanderbilt Lambda Association, is an organization at Vanderbilt University intended to reach out to and serve the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and/or questioning, intersex, and asexual and/or aromantic, and otherwise gender- and sexuality-variant (LGBTQIA+) members of Vanderbilt’s community. The organization strives to recognize the diversity of the Vanderbilt community by dispelling stereotypes and misconceptions while addressing issues of discrimination and inequity. It is also a goal of Lambda to encourage the support and involvement of all people in the Vanderbilt community. The organization addresses the needs of all students in the process of discovering identity, functioning as both a support group for those who are struggling with issues of identity and as a vehicle by which students can be vocal in the fight for equity. Although the organization itself is nonpartisan, Lambda actively promotes the awareness of political issues facing the LGBTQIA+ community. The organization is committed to involving and connecting members of the LGBTQIA+ community with resources both on and outside of campus.
