Prof. Silvia Montoya Duffis continues impacting the Lee University students and faculty with her charisma and knowledge. It has been such a blessing to having her among us this week. She has widely shared her insights and wisdom about Kriol culture/language, language as resistance, San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina “sea territory”, and many other matters. Now we have many students wanting to go serve and assist in her ancestral land. Kriol rocks! Silvia Montoya D

We welcome John (Andy) Hernandez as one of our new Spanish majors. He says:

“I want to major in Spanish because the language has always been a big part of my life. Growing up knowing Spanish has helped me connect with others, and I want to use that ability to help people feel heard and understood. I believe studying Spanish will allow me to make a positive difference in the lives of others through communication and understanding.”

Welcome Andy!!

Shelby has completed her Master’s of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Lee University. She is planning to attend Carson-Newman University for an Ed.S/Ed.D in Curriculum and Instruction. Given that the majority of her students are Spanish speakers, she plans to use the research in her degrees for further exploration in supporting her students and their learning in the classroom while acknowledging their unique experiences and challenges that they bring with them.
Congratulations!
