They’re here for a linguistic and cultural immersion. Here they are sharing their Colombian culture Carnival of Barranquilla, playing board games with our students, and enjoying classes. XIV Annual Latin American/Caribbean and Iberian Conference 2027

The Department of Language and Literature at Lee University cordially invites submissions for the XIV Annual Conference on Latin American/Caribbean and Iberian Studies. This conference will bring together undergraduate and graduate students and professors from a wide variety of disciplines. However, even though we accept graduate students’ works and papers, the focus of the conference is mainly undergraduate students.
The conference focuses primarily on the languages, literatures, and cultures of Latin America, Spain and the Caribbean; however, interdisciplinary and across the curriculum submissions will also be accepted from related areas including Service Learning, Cross-Cultural Experiences, foreign language methodology, TESOL, and others.
We will host a Culture, and Literature Showcase. Please note that this showcase is a smaller, walk-through poster session that will take place during the conference.
We would like to invite students from local high schools to attend the conference along with our Lee students, teachers, and language professors.
If you wish to present, please send a one-page abstract of approximately 250 words as an MS-Word document that clearly identifies the aim(s) of the paper or project, the rationale of the study, and finding (if applicable). Send the proposal/abstract via email to [email protected] by February 21, 2027, acceptance notification (March 8-12, 2027), or earlier. Include your name, institutional affiliation, and email address as well as a brief biography and any kind of technology needed. All presentations will have a 10-12 minute limit.

Abstracts and papers may be submitted in English, Portuguese, Spanish or French. Since one of our goals is to bring undergraduate students and faculty together, presentations co-authored by students and faculty advisors will be considered. A $45 registration fee is required for faculty attendance. $30 registration fee for students or graduate students coming from other universities if presenting. This cost will include registration fee, a light breakfast, and lunch. Lee University students do not need to pay a registration fee.

Nothing like handwriting the Spanish composition, open notes, open textbook, like old fashioned. It’s a long learning and working process of each student. They don’t use cellphones, computer or AI at all. They just handwrite and use their cognitive skills to expand their proficiency. Isn’t that great? Handwrite, make revisions, more writing, more revision, clear things up here and there, highlight mistakes and correct/revise them accurately step by step. At the end , they will do a wonderful job!
