You don't meet many people like AK Okereke.

In a single year at Vanderbilt, AK earned his MS in Finance, played a key role in the basketball team's best performance in over a decade, co-founded and ran a media and venture capital company with his brother Ike, and wrote a newsletter on Catholicism that was good enough to make a teammate a subscriber.

His Cornell coach called him one of the most well-rounded people he's ever been around. His teammates couldn't figure out how he fit it all in. His own explanation was almost too simple: figure out what matters most and make the most of the time you have.

Congratulations, AK. You represent the Owen community as well as anyone could, and we can't wait to see what you build next.

An Owen alum helped bring Vanderbilt to New York City.

Emily Baker Tobin, BA '87, MBA '92, and former chair of the Owen Advisory Council, is the recipient of Vanderbilt's inaugural Pathfinder Award for her vision and leadership in securing the historic Chelsea campus that will become Vanderbilt-New York City. She spotted the opportunity, did the analysis, and connected the right people at the right moment.

Congratulations, Emily! This is Owen at its best.

This summer, Rowan Baird, MBA '27, is taking her venture, Edaire to Wear, to the next level. Here's how Owen and Vanderbilt helped get her there.

Through the Wond'ry, Rowan took the Wearable Product Design course with Professor Capps, where a project for Magda gave her a hands-on creative counterpoint to her Owen coursework. The class emphasized rapid prototyping and iterative design, offering a different lens for problem-solving and a practical approach to innovation.

That experience paired seamlessly with Oliver Luckett's AI Accelerated Entrepreneurship course at Owen this past mod.

Rowan reflects: "These two courses and the guidance from both professors have been instrumental in solidifying my entrepreneurial vision, giving me the confidence and clarity to pursue my own venture full-time this summer."

Congratulations, Rowan. We can't wait to see where Edaire to Wear goes next.

We're thrilled to celebrate Sina Khorasani, Assistant Professor of Operations Management and Quantitative Methods, on being named one of Poets&Quants' Best 40-Under-40 MBA Professors.

For the 2026 list, P&Q received more than 1,700 nominations from business students, colleagues, administrators, and professors themselves.

Sina designed and launched two transformative MBA electives at Owen: Predictive Analytics and Business Project Management. His students describe his impact in career-changing terms. One shared that Sina's teaching "completely transformed my professional outlook," opening a door to a technology-driven career he never imagined possible.

Sina credits his own mentors for shaping the kind of professor he wants to be: passionate about high-impact research, while remaining humble and supportive. That's the spirit he brings to every Owen classroom.

Congratulations, Sina!

When the screens went from green to blue at Lehman Brothers in 2008, Gianna DelliCarpini, MBA'12, started asking what came next. Her answer: Owen.

Today, she's Chief People Officer at WeWork, leading global teams nine years into a career path she credits, in part, to the confidence she built in Nashville.

"The business school experience really gives you this confidence that you can weather different storms and try new things," she shares on the latest episode of One Thousand Ways to Lead. "It really fueled this next massive chapter."

In her conversation with host Melissa Bortkiewicz, Gianna reflects on nonlinear career paths and the power of learning from leaders across teams. Link in bio.
