Last week, members of the TSU College of Agriculture Alumni Chapter gathered for their annual Homecoming Breakfast Meeting to reconnect, conduct chapter business and discuss ways to continue supporting the College of Agriculture.

The alumni chapter plays an important role in maintaining connections with the College and helping support its continued growth and student success.

We appreciate the dedication, generosity and continued commitment of our alumni as they help strengthen TSUAg and invest in the next generation of Ag Tigers.

Yesterday, TSUAg welcomed Alan Coskrey of Bayer, Chair of the College of Agriculture Advisory Board, for a day of conversation, collaboration and planning.

The visit included discussions with the leadership team on goals and future initiatives, followed by an engaging conversation with graduate students who had the opportunity to ask questions and learn from his industry experience. The day concluded with lunch and continued discussion.

The College of Agriculture Advisory Board plays an important role in connecting TSUAg with industry leaders and helping ensure our academic programs align with the evolving needs of agriculture.

Through industry insight, mentorship and internships these partnerships help prepare our students for successful careers while strengthening the impact of our teaching, research and Extension programs.

We appreciate Alan’s time and continued commitment to TSUAg and look forward to building on this partnership to create even more opportunities for our students.

TSUAg Water Science students visited the Wetland to take field measurements and assess water quality, including turbidity, pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature and algae concentration.

These hands-on experiences help students apply classroom concepts in real-world environments while building practical skills in water quality assessment and environmental science.

💗 Celebrating strength, survival and the power of support.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members of the TSUAg family gathered in the Dean’s Suite to celebrate Ms. Cassandra and her breast cancer victory, while also honoring others who have faced the journey of diagnosis, treatment, recovery and survival.

During the gathering, Ms. Cassandra expressed her gratitude to those who prayed for her, encouraged her and supported her throughout her journey. She shared how much it meant to have the people around her continue to show up for her, offering support in ways both big and small.

At TSUAg, we celebrate not only Ms. Cassandra’s strength and victory but also the love, compassion and community that surrounded her along the way. Her journey is a powerful reminder that no one has to face breast cancer alone. 💗🎀

Tennessee State University proudly celebrated the 22nd Annual Agriculture and Home Economics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony during Homecoming week, honoring four outstanding individuals for their leadership, service and contributions to agriculture, education and communities across Tennessee and beyond.

Congratulations to the 2026 inductees:

Dr. Arvazena Clardy, TSU Associate Professor of Horticulture and Outreach and Extension Specialist

Mr. James E. Reaves, retired University of Illinois County Extension Director

Dr. Harold Love, Tennessee House of Representatives

Mrs. Brenda Gilmore, retired Tennessee State Senator

Established in 1996, the Hall of Fame honors individuals whose work has made a lasting difference while supporting scholarships for students pursuing degrees in Agriculture and Human Sciences at TSU.

Congratulations to this year’s honorees, and thank you to the alumni, friends and community partners who continue to support our students and the legacy of TSU Agriculture and Human Sciences.

During the Homecoming football game, TSU alumna and former Human Sciences Department Chair Dr. Gearldean Johnson was recognized on the field for establishing a $100,000 endowed scholarship through the College of Agriculture to support undergraduate students in Human Sciences.

She was joined on the field by TSU President Dwayne Tucker, Chief Operating Officer Jerome Oglesby, Interim Human Sciences Department Chair Dr. LaPorchia Davis and Interim Athletic Director Jennifer Bell.

Meet Kariss Sterling!

Kariss is a freshman majoring in Fashion Merchandising & Product Development!

With nearly 12 years of experience in knitting and crocheting, Kariss has developed a passion for creating unique clothing and accessories. Through her custom designs, she hopes to demonstrate that creativity has no limits and that the possibilities of working with yarn are endless!

Recently, Kariss showcased her creativity and talent by presenting her original designs at the African Street Festival Fashion Show.

Tennessee State University College of Agriculture alumnus Charles Howard Kimbrough, Sr., believed that “education is freedom.” Now, his sons, Wendell and Carlton Kimbrough, are carrying that belief forward through a $5,000 scholarship gift to TSU in honor of their parents.

Through two family foundations, the brothers are honoring their parents’ educational legacies and investing in future generations of students at their alma maters.

Last week, TSUAg’s MANRRS chapter hosted a Game Night in the TSU Student Center Game Room, giving students a chance to unwind after midterms, enjoy good food and connect with others across campus.

With games, food, drinks and plenty of opportunities to laugh and have fun, it was a great way to take a break from the books and build connections beyond the classroom.
