Congratulations to the Regional Scholars Class of 2026! Last week, another cohort from the Leadership & Public Service program completed their degrees with their final Capstone presentations. Students shared their research and policy proposals with their classmates, faculty and guests.

This group included a variety of policies aimed at enhancing civic engagement in a small town, exploring the use of cryptocurrency in government entities, the creative industry in rural markets, homesteading ordinances, and college success and readiness, among other initiatives.

After a year in graduate school, these leaders leave the classroom equipped with skills to support their communities and a network of support from across the state.

Hosting incoming high school seniors for Summer Scholars has become an annual favorite. During this one-week experience, high school students get a taste of college life, including a full college course. The course offered by aims to enhance students' understanding of the American legal system, while broadening their knowledge of the processes and politics behind legal decisions.

To gain a better understanding of the legal system and concepts, students visited with Judge McBrayer (Court of Appeals), Tennessee Attorney General Skrmetti, Kevin Batts (Recovery Court Director and Attorney for the 23rd Judicial District), Scotty Barnhill (Criminal Court Clerk), and Doug Beecham (Director of the 23rd Judicial District Recovery Court).

We are proud to celebrate the latest Tennessee Guard class, who have successfully completed their Capstone presentations — the final step in earning their M.A. in Leadership & Public Service degrees.

This cohort tackled some of today's pressing challenges in the state and organization, with research spanning topics from increasing military retention rates and modernizing the Selective Service to water filtration solutions for rural communities.

This week also marks a milestone as 50+ graduates have been produced from the Tennessee Guard and Lipscomb University partnership. 🎉

The PhD in Leadership cohort made Washington, D.C., their classroom this summer. The class engaged in candid, behind-the-scenes conversations with leaders across Capitol Hill, national advocacy organizations, the private sector, higher education, and public policy.
