Lipscomb is one of just 500 colleges and universities across the country included on the list — and one of only two in Nashville. We are off to a great start to the new school year and this latest recognition adds to the excitement!

Today, we join Tennesseans and people around the world in remembering the extraordinary life and legacy of Dolly Parton.

We were honored to welcome Dolly to our campus in October 2023 for “Dolly Parton and the Makers: My Life in Rhinestones,” a one-of-a-kind exhibition celebrating her iconic style, creativity and the talented makers behind it.

For our community, one of the most meaningful parts of that experience was the opportunity our students had to learn from and work alongside members of Dolly’s team — and to spend time with Dolly herself. More than 40 students from 12 majors helped bring the exhibit to life, and we especially appreciated the time Dolly spent with them and the encouragement she offered as she celebrated their creativity and hard work. It was a moment our students — and our entire Lipscomb community — will not soon forget.

Dolly gave so much to Tennessee and the world around her. We are grateful that Lipscomb had the opportunity to be a small part of her remarkable story.

As we wrap up the first week of classes, we’re looking back at one of the special ways we began it last Sunday night at Initium. This is a special Lipscomb tradition that marks the start of our newest students’ journey as Bisons. 💜🦬

Each new student received a slate, symbolizing a fresh start and the opportunity to begin this new chapter with all the potential God has given them. They also received an unlit candle, representing the light of learning, faith and community they will receive — and are called to share with others.

Surrounded by faculty, our newest Bisons were reminded that college is more than a new academic beginning. It is an opportunity to grow, discover their purpose, deepen their faith and use their light to make a difference in the world.

What a meaningful way to begin the year ... with a clean slate, a light to carry forward and a community walking alongside them.

We are so thankful for all of our new and returning students. It has been a great start to this new year!!

This summer Lipscomb IDEAL Program alumni Carter Cottrell and Jaden Cole represented Tennessee on the national stage at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota. Not only did they compete -- they both came home with medals! 🏅🎉

Carter, who completed the IDEAL program in 2025, earned a BRONZE medal in golf!! ⛳

Jaden, a 2019 IDEAL alum, helped his team go undefeated on its way to a national championship and GOLD medal in basketball!! 🏀

They were among nearly 3,000 athletes from all 50 states who competed in 16 sports at the national games. We are SO proud of Carter and Jaden for their hard work and perseverance and love seeing our Bisons shine on a national stage! Way to go Carter & Jaden!!
