Hocking College was excited to host the State FFA Wildlife and Nature Interpretation Competitions today! Over 500 students from across the state converged on our campus, to test their knowledge and skills.

These events are helping to shape future leaders and mold the next generation of conservation professionals.

A big thank you goes out to all of the Teachers, FFA Advisors, Hocking Faculty and Student Volunteers for making this possible!!!!

Today, students from Wildlife Management, Law Enforcement, Environmental Science, Parks and Recreation, and Fisheries and Aquaculture Science completed their CSAW Level I certification test.

Lecture topics included PPE, chainsaw safety features, five-point safety check, maintenance of the power head and guide bar, saw tooth components and angles, proper filing, and reactive forces of the chain and guide bar.

Field instruction covered open-face felling, hinge and bore methods, the five-step pre-felling plan, and hands-on tree felling.

By the end of the program, participants were expected to understand lecture concepts and demonstrate proper tree felling using the five-step plan, open-face technique, and hinge and bore method.
