Southern Indiana Odd Fellows and Rebekahs An orginization built on "Friendship" based on the "Love" for humanity and "Truth" to one another. He is humble in a way that he never boasts about himself.

An Odd Fellow bases his thoughts and actions on healthy philosophical principles. He believes that life is a commitment to improve and elevate the character of humanity through service and example. He knows and accepts his strengths and weaknesses and keeps away from badmouthing people and making unreasonable allegations. He understands that certain things in life are unavoidable. He is aware of t

he vanity of earthly things, the frailty and inevitable decay of human life and the fact that wealth has no power to stop the sureness of eventual death. He then asks the question, “How am I going to spend my life?”

An Odd Fellow is an advocate of FRIENDSHIP and never looks at people with prejudiced eyes or bases his judgment on outward appearances. He supports the idea that all people irrespective of creed, race, color, nationality, social status, sex, rank and station are brothers and sisters. He does not take an undue advantage of his power or the weaknesses of those around him. He is gentle in behavior and never inflicts pain. He avoids impurity in thoughts and unchaste conduct. He also knows that he should respect himself by following temperance in his desires and fighting against vice of every form, chastity of person, and purity in heart and mind. An Odd Fellow is an enactor of LOVE in a way that he feels jointly responsible for his fellowmen and prepared to give attention and help wherever and whenever help is needed. He is a person who treats others, especially women and children, with dignity and respect. He knows the application of sympathy, sincerity, unselfishness, and generosity. He accepts the fact that nothing is perfect but believes that he has an obligation to contribute in making the world a better place to live. An Odd Fellow is a a pursuer of TRUTH and adheres to equality, justice and righteousness. He sees searching for truth as searching for clarity in the sense of his life. Every time a small piece of truth is found, he will try to use it only in ways where he will be able to be true to himself and his fellowmen. Oftentimes, he thinks before he acts and speaks. He knows that, as a human being, it is a fact that he can think. He gives account to himself and knows that before he starts doing something, he can make the choice what to do and can think it over and consider whether the choice was the right one. He believes that making good and well-considered choices is called "behaving in a responsible way".

Odd Fellows symbol on the ceiling, consisting of three rings: they stand for “Friendship, Love, Truth”. The belief is that if one of the links break, so do the others. You can find the Symbol on gravestones in many of the older cemeteries.

By 1915, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) had a little over 3.4 million members. Today that number is about 600,000.

Today, the members of Scottsburg Lodge #555, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, proudly celebrate the 250th Birthday of the United States of America.

For generations, our Lodge has been committed to the timeless principles of Friendship, Love, and Truth, serving our neighbors and strengthening the communities we call home. As we honor this historic anniversary, we also celebrate the hardworking people of Southern Indiana whose dedication, faith, and community spirit have helped make our region a wonderful place to live.

Scottsburg Lodge #555 is proud to serve and support families throughout Scott County, Crothersville and Jackson County, Jeffersonville and Clark County, New Albany and Floyd County, and the surrounding communities. Whether in our small towns, local churches, schools, farms, or neighborhoods, we believe the American spirit is strongest when neighbors come together to help one another.

As fireworks fill the skies over Southern Indiana, let us remember the generations who sacrificed to preserve our freedoms and those who continue to build stronger communities through service, kindness, and compassion.

May God continue to bless our nation, our state, and the people of Southern Indiana.

🤝🏽 Scottsburg Lodge #555, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, welcomes Mayberry back to Scott County! 🤝🏽

From June 12-14, 2026, the streets of Scottsburg will once again be filled with the friendship, fellowship, and small-town values that made Mayberry famous during Mayberry Comes to Scottsburg. The three-day festival features celebrity guests, tribute artists, music, parades, meet-and-greets, and family-friendly entertainment in downtown Scottsburg.

As Odd Fellows, we can’t help but think of the classic Andy Griffith Show episode “The Lodge” (Season 7, Episode 2). In that episode, Andy Taylor sponsors Howard Sprague for membership in Mayberry’s men’s lodge, where fellowship, friendship, and belonging become central themes. Howard’s desire to be accepted and become part of something bigger than himself mirrors the same principles that have guided Odd Fellowship for generations.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows was founded on the ideals of Friendship, Love, and Truth. Like the lodge portrayed in Mayberry, our organization brings neighbors together, encourages service to others, and builds lifelong bonds through fellowship and community involvement.

When Mayberry comes to Scottsburg, it reminds us that strong communities are built when people care for one another, lend a helping hand, and gather as friends—not unlike the values that have sustained Scottsburg Lodge #555 for well over a century.

We invite everyone to visit Mayberry Comes to Scottsburg and experience the spirit of small-town America that continues to thrive right here in Scott County.

Scottsburg IOOF Lodge #555 is proud to partner with the Scott County Fire Chiefs and Firefighters in donating $20,000 to the Crusade for Children.

For more years than many of us can remember, our local firefighters have stood at intersections throughout Scott County collecting donations to support this incredible cause. Through the generosity of our community, the Crusade for Children has consistently returned 75% or more of the funds raised to help Scott County children facing health challenges and special needs.

We are fortunate to have dedicated firefighters who selflessly serve our community year after year—not only by protecting our homes, families, and property, but also by working tirelessly to support our children through the Crusade for Children.

To our Fire Chiefs—Joe Smith of Jennings Township, James Richie of Scottsburg, Wayne Williams of Vienna Township, Jeff Lynch of Lexington, Brad Williams of Finley Township, John Lord of Johnson Township—and to all the firefighters of Scott County, the Odd Fellows extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation. Your commitment to service makes a lasting difference in the lives of local children and families.

On this day in 1813, the capital of the Indiana Territory moved from Vincennes to Corydon, a more central location. Corydon was the first capital of Indiana when it became a state in 1816 and served as the capital city until 1825, when it was transferred to Indianapolis.

The original capitol building is preserved at Corydon Capitol State Historic Site in the heart of downtown Corydon. Tour the same rooms where the first state leaders met, visit the 1817 Governor’s Headquarters, and see the preserved trunk of the Constitution Elm, the famous Hoosier tree that delegates met under to write the first state constitution.
