The Boggs Center is New Jersey’s federally designated University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) and Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program. The Boggs Center on Disability and Human Development is a division of the Department of Pediatrics and a Community Health Program of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and part of

a national network of UCEDD and LEND programs. Since its inception in 1983, the Center has emphasized a community-based, lifespan approach to meeting the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, and is dedicated to promoting independence, productivity, and full inclusion. The Boggs Center provides community and student training and technical assistance, conducts research, and disseminates information and educational materials relevant to the developmental disabilities community.

Boggs Center faculty and staff presented at the 14th annual Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Department of Pediatrics Research Day on Wednesday, May 13th. Manuel Jimenez, MD, MS, FAAP, The Boggs Center’s Director of Research, delivered a podium presentation entitled “A 3-arm Effectiveness-Implementation Hybrid Type I Randomized Trial Comparing Strategies to Enhance Reach Out and Read.” Carrie Coffield, PhD, Co-Director of The Boggs Center and Director of NJLEND, presented a poster on teaching about disability through the lens of family-centered care. Regina Fassano, PhD, Research Associate, shared a poster that examined the association between clinical modeling during Reach Out and Read and enhanced caregiver-clinician relationships among Latino families.

The Boggs Center is pleased to congratulate the graduating class of New Jersey's inaugural Frontline Supervisor Training (FLS) Program. This cohort of more than 25 FLS, working across multiple DDD provider agencies, completed a 9-month competency-based training program offered through a collaboration between The Boggs Center and Direct Support Workforce Solutions at the University of Minnesota's Institute on Community Integration. The Boggs Center on Disability and Human Development at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is seeking a Training and Consultation Specialist for Community-Based Instruction.

Under the supervision of a faculty member, this position coordinates planning, development, training and technical assistance activities related to best practices in Community-Based Instruction (CBI). Provides training and technical assistance in Community-Based Instruction, program design and program enhancement to school personnel statewide, with concentration on person-centered approaches for all students with disabilities, especially developmental. Responsibilities include collaborating with the New Jersey Department of Education’s Office of Special Education (DOE-OSE) and other Boggs Center personnel conducting training and technical assistance in CBI; developing, planning, and providing trainings; designing and disseminating instructional and other resources; project specific data analysis and reporting; and, responding to requests for information.

Designed to empower people with disabilities, their families, caregivers, and professionals in the field, the Abilities Expo showcases assistive technologies and innovative services, offers workshops and adaptive activities, and provides opportunities to network and share resources.
