CSA SPOTLIGHT 🔦

Recently, Paolo Miyashiro Bedoya (Cohort 15) presented & attended at ACPA in Long Beach, California!

Paolo’s presentation was titled “Becoming ‘Undocu-friendly’: Understanding the Needs of Undocumented College Students”, as it covered the current political climate that impacts undocumented students, strengths and challenges that they face through an asset-based framework, and recommendations for practice. CSA SPOTLIGHT 🔦

Ranaysia Burrell, Cohort 15, recently presented at the NYU Student Affairs Conference with Katherine Ruffalo (M. Ed) & Bria Thorne (MS, Ed) titled “First Impressions Matter”. Their workshop had over 35 practitioners in attendance, where they learned more about how to put current student development theories and frame works into practice. Read more about their presentation ⬇️

“Underrepresented student groups, specifically First-generation college students, enter our campus communities without the knowledge of the ‘conduct office’. For many of them, this is the first time away from home and navigating things by themselves, without support from those who may have had a college experience. Then something happens, and they get called into our office and the stigma around our office is created. Although our offices exist for the purposes of accountability, conflict resolution, and aiding in keeping the campus community safe, we are still a part of the ‘hidden curriculum’”

Keep up the great work, Ranaysia! 👏

Professional Development Check ✅

Cohorts 15 & 16 had a reflective and memorable experience at the New York University Student Affairs Conference today!

Our students learned about key insights about the student affairs profession for 2025 and beyond, how to transform our campus’ social justice initiatives, in addition to connection with other practitioners across the region!

A huge shoutout to Rutgers’ Division of Student Affairs for making our attendance possible, & shoutout to NYU for hosting a transformative conference!
