Intensive Weekend MSW Rutgers School of Social Work

Intensive Weekend MSW Rutgers School of Social Work New Jersey's only MSW program designed for students who work full time in the human services and helping professions.

Rutgers School of Social Work’s Intensive Weekend program provides individuals working full time in the human services and related helping professions the opportunity to pursue their MSW while continuing full time employment. Classes meet once a month on the weekend, supported by online activity, and most students are able to complete field education requirements at their agency, completing 8-12 h

ours a week in an area of practice distinct from their full time work. Intensive Weekend students bring a range of experience to their MSW classwork, ranging from 1-2 years of entry level supportive or case management to supervisory and occasionally, executive level experience. Students find supportive and enriching opportunities in this cohort based model. They are able to expand their professional networks while they learn, from peers who are employed across a variety of human service settings. The program combines a strong clinical concentration with course work and skill-building in supervisory and management practice, as well as strategic planning to prepare students for leadership in their respective fields.

Dear IWP community - we need your voice!

Many Master's of Social Work students rely on federal loans to afford graduate education. But the Department of Education's recent move to exclude social work from its list of professional degrees would make it harder for MSW students—especially those from low-income and underrepresented backgrounds—to enter the profession.

Fewer graduates means fewer social workers available to meet growing mental health and social service needs.

You can make a difference for students by urging the DOE to include social work as a professional degree! Click the link below and comment before March 2!

🤝 This week we welcomed Anva Ratzon, a social worker with expertise in community and organizational development and disaster risk reduction, to to meet with school leadership and deliver a lecture to our community.

❤️‍🩹 Her talk will look at collective trauma and how it affects people, communities, and systems. Anva will present a practical resilience model that focuses on belonging, a sense of control, meaning, and shared narrative. The session will offer clear tools and ideas for professionals who work with communities in times of crisis and recovery.

Consent and decision-making for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities is a critical issue that intersects with social justice. IWP Director, Dr. Jack Lewis, and Assistant Director, Amy Strickler, presented on this topic at the Council on Social Work Education's (CSWE) 71st Annual Conference, in Denver in late October.

The conference theme, "It’s Time to Act: Championing Disability Justice and Disability Joy in Social Work," championed the need for social work conversations around disability joy, justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
