May 12, 1868, 155 years ago today, Delta Upsilon Fraternity (founded 1834) hosts their 34th anniversary celebration at St. James M. E. Church, New Brunswick, NJ. This announcement was made through a local newspaper called the Fredonian which operated in our City for most of the 1800s. This particular clipping was pasted into a scrapbook, along with many other items, by then Rutgers student William E. Griffis. Ultimately he graduates and becomes an educator. He was instrumental in bringing the first Japanese exchange students to Rutgers. His papers, including this scrapbook, are contained in the William E. Griffis Collection, Rutgers University Libraries, Special Collections and University Archives, viewable by appointment. This archive includes many photos and documents related to Rutgers U and Japan, and spans several decades, from the mid 1800s to the early 1900s. More about the collection online here:
