Laila Friedman, an art history and visual arts double major, was able to apply Jewish studies award funding toward research on her senior honors thesis, “Knights and Heraldry in a Jewish Context: An Examination of Four Folios of the Rothschild Pentateuch.” Her outstanding thesis was recognized with the prestigious Henry Rutgers Scholar Award. Joseph Gindi, a double major in Jewish studies and economics, completed his capstone project for the Rutgers Honors College under the mentorship of Professor Gary Rendsburg. The two produced a complete transcription of what is believed to be the oldest Mishnah manuscript ever discovered. Jewish studies award funds enabled Joe to travel to the University of Cambridge to examine a large part of their manuscript firsthand in the Cairo Geniza collection. He will attend Harvard Law School in the fall. Congratulations, Joe!

Outside of school, he designs and sells Judaica and other custom, handcrafted items through his brand, I.E. Creations.
