The Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities (SJE), formerly the Office of Diverse Community Affairs and LGBT Concerns, continues to provide educational, social and leadership development programs and activities for LGBT students, allies, and staff/faculty Liaisons for LGBT Students. The Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities also fosters all students engagement with and understanding of the complex issues of power, privilege, and prejudice. SJE promotes students exploration of modes advocacy and activism in order to change the structures that exclude and oppress groups and individuals. SJE creates opportunities primarily for undergraduates to make connections between their leadership development and issues, including but not limited to, race, gender, sexuality, and economic status.

When federal action impacts the lives of 700,000 fellow Dreamers, immigration lawyer Luis Cortes Romero advocates for them—and becomes the first undocumented immigrant to argue a case at the U.S. Supreme Court. The DACA program, aimed at shielding undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, is under scrutiny, creating ongoing uncertainty for young DACA recipients. FROM HERE/FROM THERE (DE AQUÍ/DE ALLÁ) is an uplifting and clear-eyed documentary interweaving the controversial case’s journey to the Supreme Court, the immigrant rights movement, and Luis’ remarkable personal story of family, hope, and perseverance.
