The Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities (SJE), formerly the Office of Diverse Community Affairs and LGBT Concerns, continues to provide educational, social and leadership development programs and activities for LGBT students, allies, and staff/faculty Liaisons for LGBT Students. The Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities also fosters all students engagement w

ith and understanding of the complex issues of power, privilege, and prejudice. SJE promotes students exploration of modes advocacy and activism in order to change the structures that exclude and oppress groups and individuals. SJE creates opportunities primarily for undergraduates to make connections between their leadership development and issues, including but not limited to, race, gender, sexuality, and economic status.

Join in welcoming Paolo Miyashiro Bedoya (he/him) () as SJE’s new Assistant Director of Education!

His role centers on designing and facilitating transformative learning experiences that deepen awareness across campus around social justice, cross cultural dialogue, and inclusive excellence. Through request-based workshops and programs, curated learning opportunities, community processing spaces, campus collaborations, and bringing scholars and speakers to Rutgers, Paolo helps call our community into meaningful engagement and growth. We are so excited to have him in this role.

Welcome back home!!! 🏳️‍🌈✨

More about Paolo:

Paolo Miyashiro Bedoya (he/him) is a passionate educator and community centered practitioner dedicated to advancing equity and inclusive learning environments. He joins SJE from the Office of Career Exploration and Success, where he curated career readiness opportunities for marginalized identities and supported students in navigating their professional journeys.

Paolo is also a proud graduate of the College Student Affairs Master’s Program, Class of 2025. During his graduate career, he served SJE as a Graduate Program Coordinator. During that time, he also stepped into and carried many responsibilities aligned with SJE’s Assistant Director of Programming role during its vacancy, further deepening his connection to the center’s work and community.

We are more than happy to welcome Paolo back home and witness his continued blossoming in higher education, especially here on the banks!
