A group of Rutgers students took a summer trip to Taiwan to study the world’s leading semiconductor ecosystem through the study abroad program "Rutgers-Taiwan: Engineering Management in High-Tech Industries" as part of the Master of Business and Science (MBS) degree.

“Taiwan is at the heart of the global semiconductor ecosystem and plays a critical role in the world's high-tech supply chain,” said Professor Hae Chang Gea, who led the program. “It offers students a unique opportunity to see firsthand how innovation, advanced manufacturing, and engineering management come together in one of the world's most important technology hubs.”

“One of my most memorable experiences while abroad was visiting an indigenous women’s community center in a rural town outside of Merida. While at the center, I felt a sense of calm, with the embrace of nature, community, and healing radiating from the space and the women who worked there. It was an inspiring experience to witness the passion of the women running the center and their dedication to keeping Mayan culture and traditions alive. I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn from them.” (2/2)

“Studying abroad was an impactful experience that has shaped new perspectives, curiosities, and appreciations in me. While staying in Merida for two weeks, I was immersed in a new culture and exposed to new foods, traditions, and practices. While there, I grew a deep admiration for the slowed-down pace of living, the friendliness of strangers, and the clear display of pride in Mexican culture and traditions. This experience reminded me to be open to learning everywhere I go. There’s so much wisdom to be shared by others, and by approaching life with curiosity, not judgement, we can better understand others and the world around us.” (1/2)

🌎 From the classroom to the cutting edge of technology!

On October 2, 39 Rutgers students visited LG’s North American headquarters for an immersive day of innovation, discovery, and career exploration. 🤖

Organized by the Korean Language Program in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, LG, and Rutgers Global the visit featured interactive lab tours, insights into how customer data drives product innovation, and a behind-the-scenes look at the technology shaping everyday life.

The day wrapped up with a career conversation featuring three Rutgers alumni working at LG, who shared advice on career pathways, summer internships, and preparing for success in a global company.

Experiences like these connect Rutgers students with industry leaders and alumni, opening doors to new perspectives and global career opportunities. 🌐

🌎 Exploring the immigrant experience in academia at Rutgers

What does it mean to be an academic immigrant? Rutgers faculty explored this question during an event on October 6 featuring Dafna Lemish, Distinguished Professor of Journalism and Media Studies at the Rutgers School of Communication and Information (SCI), who shared highlights from her new book, "Always an Academic Immigrant," published by Rutgers University Press. 📚

The event continued with a panel discussion featuring Rutgers faculty members Laurent Vera, Selin Bengi Gümrükçü, Jianing Li, and Rahul Mittal, who shared their personal journeys and perspectives on navigating academic life as immigrants. The conversation invited audience participation, creating an opportunity for reflection, dialogue, and a deeper understanding of the experiences that shape Rutgers’ international academic community.
