On September 29th, 1990, 13 young Latina women from four different colleges started a journey together. It took determination, perseverance and above all believing in each other when times were rough. With no technology, internet, cellphones they took these three letters and five colors and drove up and down NY state and built what we know today as Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc.! Today we are happy to celebrate our Pearl Year, 30 years of Solidaridad, Inspiración and Amistad! Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc., is devastated and disheartened by the continued acts of violence and discrimination towards our Black communities. As an organization, we stand in solidarity in the fight to dismantle the oppression that people of color continue to experience and combat. The events that have occurred and been brought to light over these past few weeks have been happening across this country to black communities for much too long. It is imperative to call attention to the pervasive culture of white supremacy in the United States. Oppression is not something that should feel normalized. This is not normal. This is not justice. This must change immediately✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼
