“One of my most memorable experiences while abroad was visiting an indigenous women’s community center in a rural town outside of Merida. While at the center, I felt a sense of calm, with the embrace of nature, community, and healing radiating from the space and the women who worked there. It was an inspiring experience to witness the passion of the women running the center and their dedication to keeping Mayan culture and traditions alive. I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn from them.” (2/2)

“Studying abroad was an impactful experience that has shaped new perspectives, curiosities, and appreciations in me. While staying in Merida for two weeks, I was immersed in a new culture and exposed to new foods, traditions, and practices. While there, I grew a deep admiration for the slowed-down pace of living, the friendliness of strangers, and the clear display of pride in Mexican culture and traditions. This experience reminded me to be open to learning everywhere I go. There’s so much wisdom to be shared by others, and by approaching life with curiosity, not judgement, we can better understand others and the world around us.” (1/2)

Join us for a special cultural experience with Assistant Professor Dr. Bright Gyamfi (Department of History, SAS) and Assistant Professor DeAngelo Blanchard (Department of Dance, MGSA), who will share insights into Ghanaian music, dance, and culture, followed by an evening of delicious food, live music, and dancing! 💃🏾🕺🏾🍽️

“The hands-on experience I gained is something that I will never forget and will carry with me throughout the rest of my career. But it was the amazing people I had the privilege of meeting along the way, from my classmates, to my teachers, and the Belizean locals, that really made my trip so unforgettable. I can’t express enough just how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to study abroad in Belize, and I wouldn’t hesitate to do it a million times again.” (3/3)

“Not only did I learn a lot about livestock, companion animals, and Belize's native animals, but I also practiced many skills! From administering vaccinations to a plethora of animals, to suturing cats and dogs, and even performing my own castrations on pigs, sheep, and goats, I learned so much that I will carry with me throughout the rest of my career. Studying abroad offered many challenges, like staying motivated when I couldn’t get the hang of something, but perseverance got me through. That and the amazing people I had the privilege of meeting along the way. From my classmates, to my teachers, to the Belizean locals, I’d never felt more at home while being the farthest from home I’ve ever been. I can’t express enough just how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to study abroad in Belize, and I wouldn’t hesitate to do it a million times again.”

“Deciding to study abroad was by far the best decision I’ve made so far in my 3 years here at Rutgers. As someone who doesn’t like to step out of their comfort zone very much, deciding to travel to a foreign country with a bunch of people I don't know and, more importantly, without my mom, was a big deal for me. Although I knew it wouldn’t be easy, I also knew that traveling to Belize to study large-animal veterinary practices was so important because it would elevate my career, give me irreplaceable experience, and hopefully get me into vet school (fingers crossed). But I did not know just how significantly this experience would impact my life.” (1/3)

🌎✨ Where will Rutgers take you? ✈️

More than 600 Rutgers students came to the Study Abroad Fall Fair on September 16 to explore 140 programs in 50 countries around the world! 🌍

This year’s Night Market theme brought the global experience to life with twinkling lights, candy sushi, popcorn, hot dogs, ice cream—and even a psychic helping students discover their study abroad destiny. 🔮🌙

From exploring new cultures to discovering life-changing academic opportunities, the fair was a celebration of all the ways Rutgers students can take their education beyond campus.
