A2 Land attended the CT ASLA sponsored Mill River Park Tour & Talk last Thursday, Nov. 6th, in Stamford, CT. The park integrates wild and manicured areas to create spaces of ecological diversity that are welcoming to people. The park provides many locations for users to access the river and organic environments in a largely urban environment.
A highlight of the park is the universally accessible playground that was built around mature trees and takes advantage of the existing grade change of the site. The playground design reused existing, on-site granite walls by chopping them into large blocks for sitting, climbing and providing a sense of enclosure. The playground is a safe and yet challenging space that allows children to explore, move and grow to a level that is comfortable for them.
