Yale Divinity School is a graduate professional school of Yale University committed to: "Faith and Intellect: Preparing Leaders for Church and World." Students represent several dozen denominations and faith groups. Instruction is provided in the history, d

octrines, and polity of all the major church bodies. YDS offers programs of study leading to the degrees of Master of Divinity (M.Div.), Master of Arts in Religion (M.A.R.), and Master of Sacred Theology (S.T.M.). Programs for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) are offered by the Department of Religious Studies in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Several YDS faculty hold joint appointments in the Department of Religious Studies, others participate in the doctoral program, and some Religious Studies faculty offer courses at YDS.

In the courtyard of Yale Divinity School's new Living Village, a sculpture called "Confluence” offers the soft sound of flowing water. The sculpture, a gift from Dean Greg Sterling and his wife Adrian Sterling, is the product of a 2024 design competition among students at the Yale School of Architecture. The winning design, by Ellen Zhu ’26MArch, Julia Edwards ’26MArch, and Cole Quist ’26MArch, is about "people coming together and sharing space," Edwards said. The designers collaborated with New Hampshire sculptor Monti Ackerman on the piece.

Yale Divinity School Dean Greg Sterling shared the following message today.

——

Dear Colleagues,

For the last fourteen years, I have had the privilege to serve as the dean of YDS. It has been and is the honor of my career. It has also been deeply meaningful personally: two of my grandfather’s brothers earned Yale degrees. Coming to Yale brought our family full circle. I had originally planned to step down after ten years of service, but the pandemic and the need to see the Living Village through to completion led me to seek a third term. Next year will be the fifth and final year of this term and I have decided it is time to pass the torch. The time will come to thank many people individually: three presidents, two provosts, many decanal colleagues and administrative colleagues, and above all the faculty, staff, students, and supporters of YDS. For now, I will say a collective thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your colleagueship and friendship have meant the world to me. Together we have taken some notable steps.

There is still a great deal to do. We have three major projects before us. I will work diligently to make sure that these are well on their way to becoming realities. Let’s make this coming year a milestone for YDS.
