This summer, Lavender Mao ’27 joined Bain & Company's Boston office as a summer associate, primarily working on a technology transformation for a large media and entertainment company.

"Before SOM, I spent five years in digital transformation consulting. I came to business school hoping to move into broader strategy work with greater exposure to enterprise-level decisions, and this internship was exactly the transition I had been looking for."

She credits Yale SOM's Consulting Club, courses like Leading Organizational Change, Competitor, and The Workforce, and mentorship from a SOM alumna for helping her make the most of the summer.

🎓🎉 Congratulations to the Master's in Public Education Management Class of 2026!

This fourth cohort celebrated Commencement on August 8, wrapping up a 14-month program that took them to campus for five residence weeks—all while they kept leading full-time in large urban public education systems across the U.S., from school districts to charter management organizations to state education agencies.

Keynote speaker Andrew McRae, a member of the 2023-24 cohort of The Fellowship for Public Education Leadership and chief executive officer for Breakthrough Public Schools, urged graduates to lead with purpose, especially when faced with difficult or unpopular decisions.

Graduates Ashley Daniels-Hall ’26 and Rashid Duroseau ’26 also shared remarks, celebrating the community they built together and the importance of always centering the people public education is meant to serve.

Congratulations once again to this incredible group of public education leaders—the students, families, and school systems you serve are lucky to have you! 👏

🌏 During Global Network Week at Fudan University, Yale SOM EMBA student Selamawit Worku ’27 joined more than 50 students from top management schools worldwide to explore China's innovation economy.

She learned why Western firms often stumble in China, reshaping how she thinks about storytelling and branding across cultures. A session with OpenPie's CEO offered fresh insight into enterprise AI, while a visit to Nio's showroom revealed just how fast China's EV industry is moving, and how that growth could ripple into other countries' industries.

"My GNW experience expanded how I think about technology, culture, and possibility, with friendships that will continue well beyond that one week in Shanghai," she shared.

Congratulations to Prof. Minjae Kim on winning the 2026 Best Entrepreneurship Paper Award from the Academy of Management's Organization and Management Theory Division. 🏆

Prof. Kim's winning paper examines a challenge many startups face: how the departure of a founder affects employee retention when a company hasn't yet built out formal structures or an established reputation.

This marks his third time receiving this honor, having also won in 2021 and 2024. His research focuses on when, why, and how social actors—including individuals and firms—coordinate their actions.

Congratulations to Deborah Small, the Adrian C. Israel Professor of Marketing, on becoming Director of Graduate Studies, effective July 1. She succeeds Prof. Matthew Spiegel, who led the school's doctoral program for the past 11 years.

As director, Prof. Small will oversee PhD admissions, doctoral student program policy, and student progress and support, and serve as the main liaison between doctoral students and the school’s administration and faculty.

We thank Prof. Spiegel for his years of dedicated service and welcome Prof. Small to this important new role!

Anthony Argenziano ’26 always wanted to work for a professional baseball team. As a Silver Scholar, he pursued his MBA at Yale SOM straight from undergrad to build the skills needed for a sports management career.

Classmates with years of industry experience gave him a real-world perspective, and SOM's Career Development Office helped him navigate the baseball industry's hiring process. Now, in his operations role for the Pittsburgh Pirates, he draws directly on courses like Negotiations, Economics, and The Workforce—especially when negotiating with player agents or thinking about team structure.

His advice for making the most of the SOM experience: "If you pour into this community, it will give back to you."
