Viaan Nayyar ’26 came to Yale SOM with a long-term goal of financing public infrastructure. The joint MBA and Master's in Asset Management program gave him the quantitative foundation and operational ability to pursue it.

He was drawn to SOM by the legacy of the Swensen Asset Management Institute. "David Swensen's approach to institutional investing—especially in alternative assets like infrastructure—has shaped how endowments and pension funds deploy long-duration capital," he explains. "I was eager to study at the institution that pioneered it."

Last summer, he interned in investment banking focused on energy, industrials, and infrastructure, drawing directly on coursework in Renewable Energy Project Finance, Financing Green Technologies, and Energy Law.

We're excited to share that Yale SOM is adding a new course in the MBA core curriculum!

Starting this fall, MBA students will take a new required course focused on practical AI applications—including building agents, working with large data sets, and vibe coding business applications. The course will be taught by Prof. Tauhid Zaman, who has offered an AI-focused elective for the past two years and has seen firsthand how the technology empowers students: "AI gives them the power to create an app or a business or a new process that can bring to life what they've envisioned quickly, accurately, and cheaply."

The new course is the cornerstone of a broader curriculum expansion that weaves AI throughout the core. As Dean Kerwin Charles put it, "We see this as the ideal moment to prepare students who want to shape the next phase of AI."

The updates go beyond technical skills. Courses like Workforce, Innovator, and State and Society will examine AI's impact on talent, entrepreneurship, labor markets, and algorithmic bias—because responsible use matters as much as capability.

How do you prove a map is gerrymandered? Turns out, you can use algorithms. Prof. Jamie Tucker-Foltz samples millions of random redistricting maps to build real statistical proof of partisan bias. The math has already shown up in court cases from Pennsylvania to the Supreme Court.

For six years, Yanely Vasquez '26 worked for the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance, and Private Pension Fund Administrators in Peru. When the COVID-19 pandemic triggered her first real financial crisis as a professional, it sparked a deeper mission: understanding how to strengthen financial stability.

"I realized, 'I need to learn how I can improve this in my country.' That goal led me to the Master’s in Systemic Risk program. It’s a comprehensive program for anyone who wants a long-term public-sector career in financial stability and crisis management—and it’s exactly what I needed to take the next step in my career."

She's now joining a department focused on conglomerate risk, armed with macroprudential and resolution tools to help strengthen their framework for managing crises.
