Friday Feature: Meet Carlos Agüero Echavarría

"My name is Carlos Agüero Echavarría and I’m in my last semester of my B.S in Political Science. On campus I’m a part of the Pre-Law Society serving as the treasurer, the College Democrats - SCSU chapter as Vice President, and Co-managing editor of the Society, Justice, and the Law: SCSU’s undergraduate pre-law journal. This past summer I had the honor of interning at the Innocence Project under the Strategic Litigation Department working for the Neighborhood Project centered around Asbury Park, NJ! I’m very passionate about the dynamics in federal and state political structures and institutions with small-scale communities. That said, the community with my peers, professors, and faculty here at Southern have pushed me to learn outside of my comfort zone and expand my horizons. From presenting my research paper at the NEPSA Spring ‘26 conference about analyzing the black church in the framework of Michel Foucault, particularly his version of the Panopticon mode, to simply being challenged inside the classroom. The community I’ve found here at Southern and in the Political Science department has shaped my undergrad experience."

Senator Chris Murphy is seeking hard-working and detail-oriented college students with outstanding communication and time management skills. An ardent desire to help others is required. Interns will work closely with Senator Murphy’s Hartford staff and Connecticut constituents to attain a broad understanding of the interaction between citizens and their government.

Interns assist staffers with various administrative tasks, including answering
phones and sorting mail, and participate in more substantive activities, including drafting responses to constituent inquiries, attending meetings, press conferences, and other events, and drafting congratulatory letters and certificates for the staff and Senator Murphy.

This is a PAID opportunity. All interns will receive roughly $1,500, however this is subject to change dependent on the Senate budget, for the entire semester.

If you are interested in public service, apply! This is not an opportunity solely for students getting degrees in government or political science.

Congratulations to Allison Zambrano for being selected for the Fall 2026 cohort of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Congressional Internship Program!

Through this prestigious opportunity, Allison will gain hands-on experience in congressional operations and public service.
