Personalized pricing is moving from theory to reality.

As policymakers debate how companies use consumer data to set prices, Maryland recently became the first U.S. state to prohibit the use of personal data in setting individualized prices for groceries and other goods. In a Q&A, Yale economist Jidong Zhou explores the practice, the policies designed to regulate it, and the challenges of enforcement.

Was it Charles Dickens or Mark Twain who said Hillhouse Avenue is the most beautiful street in America?

The source is debated, but the claim is the same. Six of the grand 19th-century mansions lining Hillhouse Avenue are now Yale buildings, each with its own history. One housed a future president. Another is the oldest structure on the street, built in 1826 for a descendant of New Haven's founder.

"There is a whole world under our feet from the past that we're not aware of."

That's how Sam Blair, a recent Yale School of the Environment graduate, describes what he set out to reveal with the New Haven Digital Atlas, an interactive map letting users explore what the city's shoreline looked like before industrialization, where historic mills once stood and what they left behind, and how neighborhoods like City Point looked in 1846, when they were still farm fields and open water.

Researchers are gaining new clues about one of the most puzzling legacies of the pandemic.

New research from the lab of Yale’s Akiko Iwasaki offers insight into the immune system’s role in long COVID, finding evidence that autoimmune responses may help explain why symptoms persist for some patients.

The caves were still full of surprises.

Researchers have identified a previously unknown species of eyeless cavefish living in cave systems across Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia. The discovery offers some of the strongest evidence yet that subterranean ecosystems are not the evolutionary dead ends scientists once thought they were.
