🎉Congratulations to PhD students Lisa Beyeler-Yvarra and Tom Zhuohun Wang, who are among the 31 recipients of the 2026–27 Rome Prize and Italian Fellows Program, awarded annually by the American Academy in Rome. The fellowship supports innovative work in various disciplines across the arts and humanities.
Lisa, a PhD student in and the Department of Religious Studies, was awarded the prize for her research on the spatial politics of the largest non-state landholder in the world: the Roman Catholic Church.
Tom, a PhD student in the Departments of History and Classics, was recognized for his research on the way that ancient cities across the Roman Empire managed their finances.
The Rome Prize provides artists and scholars with dedicated time, space, and a transdisciplinary community in which to advance their work within the city of Rome. 🇮🇹 Fellows will reside and work at the academy’s 11-acre campus on the Janiculum Hill for periods ranging from five to 10 months, beginning in September 2026.
