Meet the class of 2026! 🎓

One of Catey Vera's favorite memories here is the Yale Law R***e, the annual student musical that spoofs law school life. This year's production was “Mamma MYa.”

“I especially loved getting to co-direct our law school musical, which featured nearly 100 students dancing, singing, and acting to celebrate all the quirks that make this place so special,” she said.

She added, “ My time at YLS has been some of the best years of my life. I'm so grateful to be surrounded by such brilliant, kind, and multitalented classmates and now lifelong friends.”

Meet the graduates! 🎓

Dezzie B. Ligon III ’26 heads to the Naval Justice School to prepare for his new role in the Marine Corps, where he served before law school. As a judge advocate in California, he will be a prosecutor in the military justice system.

A self-described family man, Ligon said Yale Law School's flexibility let him pursue his education while being a father. (His kids even joined him onstage at Commencement!)

“I was able to have two daughters in law school, with a third child now on the way, and I don’t feel that I’ve missed a beat when it comes to learning,” he said.

In the classroom, he enjoyed his courses in international business transactions and federal tax law.

“Both changed the way I think about markets, incentives, and the economy as a whole, and they were indispensable to my intellectual growth here at Yale,” he said.

Meet the graduates! 🎓

Florian Kriener ’26 LLM heads to Berlin, where he’ll spend his Bernstein Fellowship year at a foundation working with Ukrainian representatives in peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

He’ll remember the discussions he had here about peace proposals for the war with Professor Harold Hongju Koh. He’ll also remember his LLM cohort and the community they built. (A few of them are pictured here.)

“We are 29 students from all continents, each contributing fascinating perspectives on the way legal systems work.”

The most valuable thing he learned at Yale Law School?

“That I should not shy away from having and promoting big ideas.”

Meet the graduates! 🎓

Madison Rinder ’26 says one of the best parts of Yale Law School has been learning from her professors.

"I am so grateful to my professors for instilling in me a love of learning about the law, encouraging me in my own research and writing, and challenging me to grow and think critically about legal issues," she said.

Introducing U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg ’90 as 2026 Commencement guest speaker, Dean Cristina M. Rodríguez ’00 noted that he had issued “difficult rulings at the heart of our democracy: the powers of the president, the reach of global media companies, and the balance between personal privacy and freedom of the press.”

Boasberg, referencing the years since his own graduation from Yale Law School, gave the class advice on work and life.

“Take a job where the mission matters, don’t be afraid to take risks in your career, lead a life of balance, and always remember the support of this community and the friends you have made here,” he said. “Thirty-six years from now, let it be said that you were the kind of lawyer and the kind of person that your law school and your community could be proud of.”

In commencement remarks, Professor Nicholas R. Parrillo encouraged the Class of 2026 to see issues from an opponent’s point of view.
“Be alert to the possibility of some unexpected ally from among your opponents — if not in all things, then in one narrow thing, on which you happen to find agreement,” said Parrillo, the ceremony’s faculty speaker. “If you would know the world, you must know [your opponents]. And knowing the world is the precondition for any rational effort to change it.”

Yale Law School celebrated the Class of 2026 on Monday, applauding and cheering 241 degree candidates before sending them into the world to meet the challenges of turbulent times.

The festivities took place on a sunny day in New Haven, with friends and family joining the jubilant University-wide celebration, Yale’s 325th Commencement.

In her first commencement since assuming leadership of Yale Law School, Dean Cristina M. Rodríguez ’00 urged the class to protect the rule of law and use their education to be a force for good. Earlier, Rodríguez accepted the Law School’s ceremonial maces from her predecessor, Heather K. Gerken.

“We need lawyers who are wise enough to be calm in the storm, who have equanimity in a restless and churning world,” Rodríguez told the class.

The day’s speakers, Professor Nicholas R. Parrillo ’04 and federal Judge James E. Boasberg ’90, also referenced the current political climate, reminding the soon-to-be graduates to be stewards of the law and to pursue work that matters.
