🌼 Congratulations to Colby-Sawyer College ABSN alumnus Blake ‘25, on receiving a DAISY Award during Nurses Week at Dartmouth Health! 🌼

The celebration held at was extra special this year as Tena Barnes, co-founder of DAISY Foundation, was there! She shared that the DAISY Award recognizes nurses who provide extraordinary compassionate care, and Blake’s nomination is a powerful reminder of the profound impact nurses have on patients and families during life’s most difficult moments.

Blake was nominated by the husband of a patient with advanced cancer, who shared:

“What an amazing human being Blake was. He took care of my wife, explained everything he was doing with amazing compassion… I really don’t know if I could have gotten through this without his kindness.”

Through compassionate communication, clinical expertise, and genuine human connection, Blake exemplified the very best of nursing. His care not only supported his patient but also provided comfort and strength to a family navigating an incredibly challenging journey.

We are proud to celebrate Blake’s achievement and grateful to see Colby-Sawyer nursing alumni making a meaningful difference in the lives of those they serve every day. A 1987 CSC graduate and longtime NICU nurse at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Alison has spent nearly four decades caring for some of the most vulnerable patients and supporting families with extraordinary compassion and kindness.

Our Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) candidates shared powerful work through their Scholarly Projects earlier this week. These presentations represent months (and years!) of scholarship, leadership, and commitment to advancing nursing practice. From improving patient-centered care to addressing implicit bias and system-level change, their work reflects the heart of what it means to be a nurse leader.

Lifting, moving, and learning.. together 💪💙

Our ABSN students spent time with the rehab team getting hands-on with safe patient handling equipment, including lifts, gait belts, and mobility devices.

These experiences don’t just build skills - they build confidence, teamwork, and a commitment to patient safety that will carry into clinical practice. 🩺

Senior nursing student, Ellie, is loving her practicum in Interventional Radiology and it shows 💙

Interventional Radiology (IR) is a specialized area where minimally invasive, image-guided procedures are used to diagnose and treat patients - offering a unique blend of procedural care and critical thinking.

At CSC Nursing, practicum experiences can go beyond traditional inpatient units - helping students explore specialized areas and discover where they thrive. 🩺

Future nurses 🤝 future physicians

On Friday, Colby-Sawyer College Nursing had the privilege of hosting an interprofessional education (IPE) session in collaboration with our colleagues from Geisel School of Medicine and the Patient Safety Training Center at Dartmouth Health.

Senior nursing students and 3rd-year medical students worked together in a simulated clinical scenario to develop a safe and effective hospital discharge plan for a patient.

Through this experience, students practiced:
✔️ Interprofessional collaboration
✔️ Active listening and shared decision-making
✔️ Team-based problem solving
✔️ Delivering person-centered, safe, and equitable care

Experiences like this highlight the power of teamwork in healthcare and prepare our students to lead in complex clinical environments.

We are grateful for our continued partnership with Geisel and DHMC in shaping the future of collaborative care. 💙🩺

Students in our Introduction to Professional Nursing course recently participated in a communication simulation designed to strengthen teamwork, critical thinking, and clinical communication skills.

Through interactive activities and real-time problem solving, students practiced prioritization, collaboration, and clear communication - all essential components of safe, effective patient care.

Learning goes beyond the textbook at CSC Nursing. Our students are building the skills that matter most. 💙🩺

ABSN ’26 student, Sarah, recently had the incredible opportunity in her practicum to support Hope B. (ABSN alum Fall ’24) during the delivery of a set of twins at the Birthing Pavilion at .

Just hours later, Sarah observed another twin delivery alongside Birthing Pavilion nurses, including Michelle (ABSN alum Spring ’24) - welcoming four babies in just four hours!

Moments like these highlight the power of mentorship and the strength of the CSC Nursing community - where alumni return as colleagues, guiding the next generation of nurses.

Sarah shared how grateful she is for the mentorship and support she has received and that through experiences like this are what make nursing so meaningful.

🩺 Learning by doing. Thinking like nurses.

Our Fundamentals of Nursing students in both our Traditional BSN and ABSN programs kicked off their Introduction to Simulation, practicing patient assessments with our simulation manikins and tackling our “Room of Disbelief”—a patient room filled with hidden safety concerns.

Through hands-on learning, students build the observation, teamwork, and clinical judgment skills essential for safe patient care.

This is where nursing practice begins. 💙
