We are excited to announce our new exhibit The Continuing Enchantment of Oz: The World of Oz after L. Frank Baum. This exhibit explores the rich history of Oz after the death of its creator L.Frank Baum. The exhibit traces the many authors who contributed to the ongoing story of Oz, the ephemera made, and the newsletters and scholarship produced by Ozophiles. It's open from February 18th - April 15th on the First floor of Shain Library.

As part of , we are featuring interesting formats of materials in our collection. This is a tintype photograph. Tintypes were made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of metal coated with a dark lacquer or enamel and used as the support for the photographic emulsion. It was introduced in the mid-19th century and continued to be produced until the 20th century.

Featured here is a tintype from the William Ingram papers. William Ingram was born in Connecticut in 1825 and gives his occupation in the 1860 census as huntsman. William volunteered for the Union army in November of 1861. He was mustered into Company K of the 12th Connecticut as a sharpshooter. On March 4, 1863 he writes what seems to be his final letter home announcing that he is well. Less than a month later he is discharged due to illness and begins to travel home. William arrived home in Mystic, Connecticut on April 28, 1863 and died hours later.

On Tuesday, September 17, at 7 pm in Palmer Auditorium, Jarrett Krosoczka will be the speaker at the College’s annual “One Book One Region” Lecture. An exhibition of Krosoczka’s artwork is currently featured at Shain Library until Monday, October 14th. Come Check it out!

The Sound Lab Foundation Lecture is back for its 21st year. This year, we feature a local green entrepreneur who is part of a group seeking to transform Long Island Sound through underwater vertical farming. This initiative helps to clean the Sound, fight global warming, and provide new sources of food for a growing population. Suzie Flores presents "Seeing Seaweed Differently: Farming Kelp off the New England Coast" in the Charles Chu Asian Art Reading Room in the Shain Library, Thursday, October 25 at 4:30 pm. A reception will follow her talk.

Today is the first of our two Camel Days, when we host admitted students with a variety of activities in Shain Library and across campus. While the weather outside is a tad dreary, the library feels brighter with the installation of a new exhibit featuring capstone projects by students in Architectural Studies. Evolution of the Process will be on view until June 30.
