Happy Founders Day! 🎓

68 years ago today, our University—then LSUNO—held its first-ever convocation.

Since 1958, generations of Privateers have helped build the story of this University and this city through their achievements, service, leadership, and pride in the place that brought them together.

Today, we celebrate that history—and the role our alumni community continues to play in Founding the Future of LSU New Orleans. 💜✨

Welcome home, Ervin Johnson! 🏀✨

The championship-winning Privateer, first-round NBA draft pick and member of the Class of 1996 has returned to his Lakefront roots as LSU New Orleans’ new assistant basketball coach.

Johnson played center in the NBA from 1993 to 2006, with a career spanning the Seattle SuperSonics, Denver Nuggets, Milwaukee Bucks and Minnesota Timberwolves.

His journey reflects the spirit of so many Privateers: through hard work, determination and an unbreakable spirit, he rose from humble beginnings to build a life and career defined by success and purpose.

In his remarks, Johnson shared his excitement about mentoring young men as they grow into the best versions of themselves—and about giving his daughters the opportunity to see him return to the game and the University that helped shape his life.
