Tulane's Design Program equips students to use design as a language and apply solutions-based thinking to the most urgent challenges of our time. Students learn to integrate multiple aspects of a problem and respond with interdisciplinary solutions that span business, social sciences, engineering, and beyond. The program is available as a Bachelor of Arts in Design or an undergraduate Minor in Design.

Assistant Professor Assia Crawford and her students are blending a 700-year-old building technique with cutting-edge biomaterials research. The Bioactive Craft project combines traditional tile vault construction with mycelium biocomposites, creating structures that don't just stand still but evolve, decompose, and give rise to new ecologies over time. The team will monitor the tiles over time through comparative scans to track exactly how these materials age in the context of New Orleans.

This is the first of three videos, with work by Sophia Atkins, Brooks Barrios, Jack Boyer, Sarah Cepeda, Luke Dyer, Rio Ferrand-Rodgers, Charlie Hazel Pon, Owen Kidd, Jack Morris, Ben Sacher, Alexandra Trapanese, and Sydney Van Slyke.

Senior Professor of Practice Cordula Roser Gray, through her firm crgarchitecture and in collaboration with X-TOPIA, has unveiled Aion at Southeastern Louisiana University. The Centennial Monument honors the university's 100-year legacy and is rooted in the values of fluidity, connectivity, and functionality. Inspired by the Greek concept of "eternal," Aion serves as both a commemorative landmark and a gathering space, constructed with sustainable and durable materials at the heart of campus as a symbol of connection, resilience, and progress.

For Nathan, the most rewarding part of URBANbuild is getting away from the screen and making something real. Hear how working on the final details of UB21 and connecting with neighbors on the site has shaped his experience in the program.

New Orleans natives Abigail and Meredith are using their deep roots to help rebuild their city through URBANbuild 21. Their winning design takes inspiration from the classic New Orleans shotgun home, utilizing a layout that allows for natural breezes while addressing the critical challenge of ADA accessibility.

By focusing on inclusive design and clear circulation, they are creating accessible housing in a neighborhood still recovering from the lasting effects of Hurricane Katrina.
